Engine Swap - need help
Published (2009-11-30 14:28:00)
Someone will have to chime in here because I know nothing of the e-bay dealers. I've done swaps before into mr2's and done some pretty trick wiring jobs. Just starting to turbo my gen2 3sge on my racecar I've brought the fuel pump, variable fuel pressure regulator, turbo, manifold, dumpipe, external wastegate and a stand alone computer. Still want injectors and a wideband O2. Not all that cheap to do but once I have the tools I...

If you remove the plastic shroud in the engine bay it frees up a lot of room.

Ah, this makes it harder. If you know nothing about engines then swapping engines will definitely get you into trouble. If you are prepared to experiment and learn (and get frustrated and get it wrong a couple of times first) then upgrading the '71 is a good way to go. The existing stuff is simple (no computers, emission controls, etc), so they make a good basis for putting in better engines. But if you are not prepared to experiment then...

ECT Sensor?

Hi guys, I have a 2004 Celica that I have a question about. The other day I was driving home and the engine temperature gauge pegged like it was overheating. I pulled over and looked under the hood and there was no sign of overheating...(to my limited knowledge)....I noticed also that the temperature was reading at about 130 degrees. I restarted the car and the gauge went back to normal. Since there was no evidence that my car was really...

If you're used to the All-trac then you won't like the performance of the 18R-C.
But the can be replace with something much better.

My experience is from a considerably older celica, but possibly still relevent? Are you looking at a GT or a GTS model?
1. My 92 is now at 160,000 and still going strong. If it is a GT model it'll have the 1ZZ engine, which is fairly reliable, some early models had a problem with oil consumption allegedly though.
2. The car needed some work when I bought it but was all regular ...

A 3sgte swap is way easy it is only wiring. Turboing the current engine
requires getting all the parts and then getting a computer and tuning it, a
swap is probably cheaper/easier you could turbo an n/a for less than a swap
but you have to know what you are doing and tune yourself otherwise you
will land up spending more especially if you pop the ringlands or
something.

Hey, if you want a good resource/community specifically for the 6th gen celica(94-99) head over to 6gc.net. Theres a lot of info for our cars there and lots of people selling parts as well..... As far as interchangeable parts, the hood is completely interchangeable between 94-99, winshield is interchangeable from 94-99, driver side low and high beams are exchangeable from 94-99, the front bumper...

i think the recommended replacement for iridium is 100,000 km so you're overdue.

You can check primary voltage on coil. I believe its about 5V. Try another coil. They fail more often then ignitor. Also make sure ignitor got a good ground to chasis.
