90 4runner idle prob.
Published (2009-11-27 07:33:00)
Kickit, The first thing I would check would be the throttle position sensor to make sure the idle adjustment is within spec. To do it properly you will need to pull the throttle body off, and adjust it on the bench. All you need is a Volt/Ohm meter and a feeler gauge. Goggle "1993 toyota pickup service manual". It has you model engine in it be sure to look at the right motor because it has the 22re in it also. You don't...

Fuel Filter Replacement
Published (2009-11-19 23:19:00)
Toyota claims the fuel filters are for life and never need to be changed unless they are damaged. They are kind of out there hanging on the frame, so if you hit something you might damage it, otherwise you should never have to mess with it. As stated before, most owners manuals don't even mention it as ever needing service.

A clogged catalytic converter can make it overheat. 3000 rpm at 65? That seems high for a V6.

My 99 4 Runner having problems...
Published (2009-11-24 23:51:00)
Thanks so much for all the help everyone, you guys made it possible for me to get rid of the possibility of it being something I could easily fix. I took it into Meinecke yesterday and it was the starter. New starter and $485 later and it starts up perfectly again. I also realized that I think it had been lagging in starting for a while, because now I notice that it starts instantly. Thanks again, Bryan

If you want to be certain that your cat converter isn't plugged run your vehicle and then when it's warm look under and if the cat is glowing red then it's a sign that it's clogged.

There was a recall sometime back, maybe since expired, but not sure. Maybe check with your dealer?

Well, when he was in there the first time changing out the water pump he went ahead and adjusted the timing belt. Is there a possibility that he screwed up and it is now off timing because it wasnt adjusted properly?

You're all going to think...

I can't seem to figure out how to get the front license plate on. this is because there seems to be a plastic enclosure around where the bolts are. Do I have to take the valence off? its a 94 with what appears to be a plastic valence... I didn't know until I bought it that 4Runners of this vintage had plastic valences... but whatever... thanks

Rebootej,
You might want to drain the oil and see if you have any metal or aluminum in the oil. If you don't, you might want to pull the oil pan off and check the pickup screen for blockage and clean the relief valve for the oil pump. I think that would be easier than going through the timing belt area. I would not take oil pressure problems lighty.

Wildhare,
Did you have the heads reworked? And if so did they do a zyglo check to look for cracks? Also how bad did it overheat on a fresh rebuild?

I'm a Corolla guy.
I feel it's a little high. Yes they are excellent vehicles yet like all jeeps they guzzle fuel. Once the economy starts firing on all cylinders again, fuel prices are going back up.
Our jeep guys will know for sure.
Welcome

At 15000 you shouldn't need anything besides your regular oil change. Should only be around $30

Someone just told me of the possibility of a problem with coolant leaking and causing this problem. I don't think this describes my problem as it really seems like something is draining the battery, being how the car starts differently depending on how long I drive it for and how long I let it sit. Anyone know much about this? I haven't disabled the alarm yet but am going to do that next. ...

10V is way too low. How long has has the battery been in there? I would
think about replacing it ASAP.

Double cab p/u with shell vs 4Runner. Same year even.
Almost like a "6 of 1 vs half a dozen of the other" type thing.
If you have the xtra $2K, get it.

Have always run BFG ATs but this year trying Nitto Terra Grapplers and love them so far. Quiet and great on the road and off so far. I'm running narrower then most - to increase milage and get through to the hard stuff better then the phat boys... 25/80/17s.
Had the same experience with the toyo's so its bfgs or nittos' for me.
