The 1/2" chain always looks a little small in the 5/8" hooks. The chain adapters you have heard of spreading are a different make than the ones seen here. Personally those look like overkill, but those look very safe. The other ones, or maybe original ones would break a finger before a 1/2" chain would give out......

tow looks ok from what i can see, i personally would not use zip ties on the hoses and cords. i use a bungee wraped around once to the grill or run under but i like them to be able to stretch and not break in a pinch!

Is it now left up to me to call a road service mechanic or something to get the driveshaft reinstalled? Dont mistake this for arguing. I 100% understand the...

driveshaft question?
Published (2009-12-24 17:18:53)
The shaft all the way out.If it has ANY kind of problem in the future (10 years down the road) guess who gets blamed? I always tie it to the passenger side with a 3/8 chain and either remove the caps or if the retainer is still intact i leave and tape. But,If i pull it i put it back.(not axles tho if i pull an axle i do NOT put it back.)

They are willing to train though. Where do I apply? I could use the raise! lol. I can flip burgers for that price, and be a lot less stressed doing it. But I wouldn' have nearly as much fun.

I prefer to pull them all of the way out, however I don't re-install them either. I have tied them up, but always use extra bungees/zip ties. I also remove
the caps and never leave them on the driveshaft.

I've always used a rachet strap through the u-joint when I pull it off the axle and tie it up to a frame rail and also put duct tape around the caps about
3 times. I agree on marking the caps so if you do put it back on, it'll go to the same side it came off. Thanks.

Yes, we use them on all our heavies, mostly on back roads on packed snow like gas well locations but take them off when we hit the main hi-way, wouldn't
run much over 35mph. We put them on the lift axle and leave them on so by just putting it down we can stop better pulling onto a side road. Buy the heaviest
and best you can, also a repair tool and extra links. We have duels but mostly just use ...

George, I never tie one up. The guys I usually tow for look for the "shaft on the ground" as a sign that it needs looked at. I have not made sticky
notes to put in the cab warning of shaft removal. If I were to tie one up, they would never give it a thought and try driving it around.

Good job on getting that pin out! Never seen one come out that easy, if there is no cylinder lock ( saftey Valve) you could pull 1 hydraulic line off the top
and pull it up with a ratched strap if not, remove the hydraulic line between the cylinder lock and cylinder and do it that way, I've done it before with a
wrecker stiff leg. Nice tow, always something different!

I'm certainly no expert on this topic Brian, but its my understanding that newer transmissions, manual or automatic, all require the input shaft to be
turning to move oil through the transmission ie. tailshaft in our application, to keep oil supplied to these bearings. Although, as I said, I'm not by any
means an expert.

Can you explain a little more? Did your right rear leg lose footing to
