You might try a different driver -- this may be the generic one for the Atheros wireless chipset which is used in the Acer: www.laptops-drivers.com/acer.../fr [...] -4520.html - Frankly if none of the suggestions you get here work, it's probably simplest to buy a USB of PC Card (PCMCIA) wireless adapter as they're probably cheaper than a repair.

Will the iPhone not support ad-hoc networking -- ie sending data from one computer to another (rather than infrastructure which implies using a router) ? Because it's only a temporary link, I've noticed most people don't bother with wireless security on ad-hoc.

Essentially, I'm looking to capture packets with my DWL-520+ card from my supposedly secure wap. I'm in the middle of somewhat of a self-taught wireless security course (because I can't afford the real thing right now!!), and I happen to have hardware at home - it's not the greatest, but hopefully I'll be able to gather the concepts I'm looking for. I understand TI didn't really support the chipset on this...

No, other usb devices are fine. I've got a mouse, keyboard, and external HD plugged in via USB. And it's really hard to troubleshoot drivers when it takes 15minutes to do anything or I have to unplug the device to get the software to do anything.

If you right click on the printer once it's installed you can turn on sharing. Once sharing is on, you just asked the other computers to install a printer that is being shared on the network. Win7 will search for the printer first, if it doesn't find it you can just add it manually. But if it is sharing, it should find it.

You need to access the setup screens on your router -- see literature which came with it or download manual. Once in, go Wireless Setting , Wireless Security and read off the passphrase and note the security type and apply that to the new computer. If the passphrase is starred-out suggest you create a new one and apply it to both computers. If you have problems with the new computer connecting...

I have experienced this kind of thing while at a friend's place and we concluded that there was some issue with the router we had accessed -- perhaps deliberate. The symptom sounds similar to yours. But this was a few years ago when few people round here secured their routers and, I rather doubt that back then anyone had the knowhow to ambush people that way. Anyway the days when you could ...

There may be a setting in the router configuration for this. Maybe something that allows wireless and wired connections to see each other. Go to the router setup in whatever browser you're using and look around. It's usually http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1. It would help if you let us know which router you're using.

Do you have wireless ? If so address the router setup screens (see router manual) and apply wireless security. If you don't have wireless I can't see how anyone can be stealing your bandwidth.

I'm not sure on the wireless router features today but you're looking for "bridging." Its been a few years since I messed with it but basically you would need the cable modem to connect into the router (for the WAN port and DHCP if needed) and the router would then hook into the wireless AP, which would then bridge the connection to another available wireless AP. It is important to use the same ...

Linksys has a user forum -- I'm surprised their customer service drone didn't direct you to there. I think your Linksys product has to have been registered for you to access it (why ? Netgear's forum doesn't discriminate against people like me with used equipment). Have you tried putting the USB wireless adapter back in the old machine (or any other) to see if there's perhaps a hardware problem.

Temporarily disable wireless security in the Airport (assuming that's the router) and see if you can connect then. If so experiment with different security protocols. There are issues between older Apple stuff and regular networking equipment usually to do with wireless security.

Do other USB devices cause issues ? If so check motherboard chipset drivers work with Win7. If not, it sounds like a Win7 driver problem for the wireless adapter.

You don't need the CD or a driver to set up a router. Download the manual for how to do it manually. The Netgear site also has a pretty good user forum if you get stuck.

Go to USRobotics site (note spelling) http://www.usr.com/support/s-main-menu.a sp and select your country. But check the model number of your product because I coouldn't find one with that exact number, similar but not the same. Download the manual and read how to access the router's user setup pages (usually via the IP address 192.168.0.1 or similar typed into the address bar of your router). ...

Presumably this is a wireless router. In which case you need to access the router's setup screens (see manual or quick start leaflet for router's IP address and put that into the address bar of your browser). You should be greeted by a login box -- Username is usually admin Password may be password or admin or something you chose (see router manual for default password). Once in go to wireless...
