Unlocking Sempron 140

It's possible your cpu is too unstable with the extra core unlocked. I wouldn't change the bios unless you have another problem.

Save yourself (or your friend) $700 and overclock the i7 920 to 3.3ghz and you have the same processor. In fact all you have to do is enable the turbo function and you already have 3.2ghz. Or you can do like everyone else on this forum and overclock it to 4ghz and have a much faster processor for $700 less.

Computer not showing anything

It could be the board, or the PSU, or the RAM, or the CPU. I could also be the CPU fan stopped working and the CPU over-heated, shutting down the POST. If you replace the board, you will have to re-seat the CPU, and yes, you will need new, properly-applied thermal paste between the CPU and the heatsink.

Confusion in the Land of 775

Done deal. I went with the DFI X48. $134.99 for a high end X48 platform was just too tempting. I'm prepared for a more complex and less satisfying overclock, but the board better supports the GPU configuration I will likely end up with: Nvidia's eventual DX11 dual GPU card w/ a 285 GTX for overkill dedicated PhysX. I lucked into the 285 on eBay for a song, but I'm not willing to relegate it to secondary server box duty, and if...

I7 mobo - highend or budget?
Published (2010-01-06 17:21:00)
The 2 mobos are very similar - here is Gigabyte's comparison: http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/ [...] =2958,3251 The i7 will run fine with the stocK HSF if you don't OC it. I prefer upgrading the HSF even when not overclocking since heat is the enemy. But don't know enough about shorter ones to recommend one.

Good news the model number is printed right on the motherboard and the manual can be downloaded at Gigabyte.com

I don't see your Nanya RAM on the compatible memory list for your
motherboard. Now that doesn't mean it isn't supported but it's a possible
problem.
The PSU isn't a very good brand either.
When booting, do your fans (all of them) operate, hard drives spin up,
normal beep codes, etc...? Just no picture?
Start by testing with a different monitor. Then a different PSU and RAM if
possible.
If ...

Are you overclocking? Overclocking can stress out the power supply, even
good ones. I use coretemp to monitor cpu temps. Could also be a heat issue
with the video card. List your complete specs for more suggestions.

My vote goes for the Asus maximus III, mainly because thats the board im
using and I love it. Cant speak on the evga board but the asus board is soo
easy to overlcock and has an insane amount of features. I have the i7 860
and the highest speed i have hit so far is 3.9ghz, but i havent really
tried messing around with the settings to much.
The Memperfect feature is really nice it will torture ...

Oh boy. Why dont you start by telling us what components you have for the
motherboard your looking for.
Some p45 have 16x/8x and some have 8x/8x. It's not going to make any
difference unless your running HD5970 x 2. Besides your cpu would likely
never keep up with 2 of those dual gpu cards anyways.
Your P35 should overclock nearly as well as the P45.
I think you should concentrate on figuring ...

A little background info might help such as are you trying to do a reformat
or did this just happen out of the blue?
I've had that missing NTLDR message when a hard drive gave out one me.
Is the hard drive OK to the best of your knowledge?

Well, I have about 30 machines under my belt this millenium w/ Asus
boards....so my experience outside of that is somewhat limited. EVGA or MSI
would be my next choice, whereas ASRock is quite a bit down on my list.
the thing is, with USB 3 and SATA 6 Gb/s out, many would find it hard to by
a board w/o those features....to my recollection, only Asus and Gigabyte
are ther eyet w/ 1366 boards. ...

You will definitely need to do a clean install unless you're swapping it
out with the same motherboard. Hopefully all the ram still works too. You
might want to run Memtest86+ to see if you have any dead ram. Hopefully
you're video card still works too. I've see shorted boards take out video
card, expansion cards (wireless, raid, sound), ram, and CPU.
Sorry to scare you, but prepare for the ...

Hi,
I am trying to mount an ASUS M4A78LT-M LE mobo inside an Azza Orion case.
Here's the problem: even though I am using the smallest standoffs I have, the motherboard's ports will not align with the i/o plate. The screw holes on the mobo tray are already "raised" (you can see the pics at the link below), so when I put the standoffs in, the motherboard sits too high in ...

P55 has 2 PCI- E 2.0 slots.
But 16x4s CF doesn't perform good and gives you a performance hit compared
to dual 8x or dual 16x,here is a good link which compares them all:
