You'll probably have to use the DVD or restore partition on it to try and do a system restore. Chances are the updates that were installed had a "disagreement" with something you installed on the laptop.

You can't increase your fan speed with Everest, I don't think. I'm not sure. Do you have a single fan on your notebook, or are there two?

64 bit Windows should run on it. Re memory you can get 4 GB RAM DDR3, 1066 MHz for about $85 and upward depending on make/model. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] esult=True Remember the laptop comes with 2 memory slots (i think), that means the 1GB memory which comes with it cant be used anymore if you want to have 4GB installed . So you need to buy 2 x 2GB. The Other option is ask them to install 1x 2GB memory, and you buy another 2GB...

The chart you have is for a pure CPU test - of course the quad core wins. For gaming, though, the i7 and the core 2 duo are pretty much matched. Notebooks just don't have the GPU power to differentiate. I'd say get the duo if you prefer battery life, and get the quad if you'll be doing any CPU-tasking work.

Your budget is low to get a good laptop with 1600 x 900 display. If you increase your budget by $100, then you can go for Sony FW series.Sony is not as bad as you may think. From my experince Toshiba and Asus are good makes, Fujitsu alright, Acer-Packard bell poor, HP Cheap. Never had Dell, but they get good reviews. Pansonic looks great. Never liked Lenovo, when IBM was in charge, they use to...

Try seeing if you can get a temp. on the GPU (I assume it is a dedicated GPU). It sounds like there may be an issue with the GPU overheating, which in turn causes the video driver to go out and that can lead to a freeze. What GPU do you have in it?

No,Clevo D900T (AW M7700) is an old laptop which has P4 CPUs with 7900GTX VGA card, there are lots of better laptops than that now like Clevo D900F which has i7 desktop CPUs along with GTX 280M,or Clevo M980NU which has 2xGTX 280M in SLI with Core 2 CPUs and a lot more laptops

Just so you know, the GTX 280M is really based on the same G92b chip as the 9800GTX+ and the GTS250. The G200 chip (what the GTX 260,275, and 280 are based on) was just too big and power hungry for a laptop. That being said the G300 chips are going to be even bigger and use more power. NVIDIA probably won't launch derivative chips till much latter so you could be waiting a long while for a ...

The only thing that really matters is the battery, here. If you know you'll need the extra battery life, go with that. Otherwise, head for costco and the better warranty. Note that you can always buy the battery separately from HP.
