probably neither will have upgrades in 3 years.

The best you can do is look at some used CPUs. The athlon 2500+ is a barton core with 333mhz systembus (fsb) so any socket A/462 CPU with that fsb should be compatible with your motherboard.

Sub 20C? You must have a pretty cold room then. Idle temps could never be below the air temperature, and 20C is 68F.

Help! CPU Won't turn on!
Published (2009-11-30 14:57:00)
Sounds like a dead motherboard to me. LGA775? A cheap motherboard will run you about $50. But this board is a BTX board and I don't know anything about your case and what boards it can fit other than BTX.

How to change motherboard logo
Published (2009-11-29 14:14:00)
Motherboard logo is fixed in the BIOS. Without embedding a new graphic in a copy of the BIOS and then flashing it (very risky), all you can do is turn it off. Now, the boot logo is another matter. That can be changed pretty easily. Google something like "change boot logo".

Upgrade
Published (2009-11-30 05:44:00)
No, if its socket 478 its time to die was a few years ago and any processor upgrades that may once have existed are likely sold out even on ebay, you are much better off just building a whole new system for about $400.

Relationship between cache and ram
Published (2009-11-30 10:54:00)
I dont think so. Cache is something which is inside the processor. Its is the primary storage of memory for the processors since retrieving from RAMs takes longer time.

I'm sorry but I really can't understand you too well. It looks like you put
your paragraph through a translator program a few times so I will summarize
what I think you said. Let me know if I got something wrong.
So from what I gather, you
1. Created two partitions
2. installed xp on C. your computer rebooted several times before the
installation completed.
3. you right clicked on the second ...

Ok, so I just figured I would disable SpeedStep, system would boot into OS,
then after you attempt starting something...bam...reboots.
Event log is showing issue with video card driver:
Fault bucket X64_0x116_TdrBCR:2_Tdr:2_IMAGE_nvlddmkm.sys, type 0
Now could this have been caused by bad PCIe interface on mb? I only changed
the SpeedStep setting, and I get a video failure which lead to ...

Have you upgraded the RAM yet? It comes with just 256 MB but you need more
than for gaming. It can handle up to 4 GB's. if you haven't upgraded the
RAM yet, I'll give you my recommendations for which RAM to get.
Next, your PSU is just 250 watts with no PCI-e power connector. That will
not support any modern cards but the absolute lowest end (which won't be
much better than the integrated ...

I love hyperthreading, if it was me id chace it, and no it wont show up on
benchmarks (most of the time) but general usage is where it shows up - only
owners of any HT chip could tell you etc.

nope, either use the preapplied tp or clean the tp off the heatsink and put
a pea sized amt on the cpu and let the heatsink spread it out unless its
hdt, then look it up

I have a mobo that also sets the cpu voltages automatically as well.
Do you have the " over voltage" option on the mobo? Manually setting the
over-voltage instead of letting it be on auto should help you reduce the
voltage.
AMD cpus do run on higher voltages than Intel's cpu...but 1.632v is way too
much. I think the stock voltage for Brisbanes go up to 1.4v...

System specs? especially, motherboard (we need to know the socket)?
You can find this using a program called CPU-z. Google it. run the program.
under the cpu tab tell us what is says beside "name", " code name" and
"package". Under the mainboard tab tell us "manufacturer" and "model".
It would be great if you could tell us other system specs or the
manufacturer of the computer and model (I'm ...

What are you going to be using the computer for? For basic tasks a quick
dual core is sufficient. Now is this a Phenom X4 or a Phenom II X4? The
Athlon II and Phenom II perform nearly identically clock for clock, the
lack of an L3 cache on the Athlon does not hinder it too much, but if its a
first generation phenom the Athlon II will likely beat it in most tasks,
especially if it has a higher ...

As a personal preference, I prefer the Corsair. I have 4GB (4x1GB) of the
XMS (same as dominator minus the fan) thats 5-5-5-18 1066MHz and I was able
to clock it to 4-4-4-12 1333MHz.
Corsair just tends to be a tad better.

You write fine
If you are planning to Overclock a lot like 300 mhz and up then go ahead
with the Aftermarket cooler, and no Overclocking isn't a dumb idea it is a
way to get more for less.

The Westmere 12-Core will be on the LGA 1366 socket.
However if you don't plan on upgrading for 4 years, I would purchase the i5
750 now and get a new system in four years... IMO There will be new
technology with MOBO's by that time which will warrant a new MOBO versus a
BIOS update to run the 12-core CPU.

The i7 920 is the best processor for the money for your type of
applications!! I would recommend buying 12GB of RAM to make your process
run better! The combination of the i7 920 and 12GB of OCZ Platinum 12GB
(6x2GB) DDR3 1600 RAM wil suite you needs very good! :D
