Update wiped my TomTom memory

This is quite normal as the newer software you have installed cannot read the MapSettings.cfg file which is where all these locations and settings are stored so the software wipes out the old (unreadable) file and creates a new one that is devoid of any entries, this is why I will not use favourites at all as they are a waste of time, try a custom POI file instead as these don't get destroyed with any updates - Mike

Update wiped my TomTom memory

I have just done a TomTom Home update of my TomTom Go 300 as I have many times before, but when I switched the device on its memory had been wiped. SAll my collection of favourite destinations, my home, my traffic and bluetooth configuration everything. What a terrible thing to do to a customer.

Hello, i found this forum after searching for a message board to help me with a problem im having after tomtom's technical support failed to solve it. The problem im having is, while driving, the map data on the screen (ie...the roads, the roadnames and the car indicator) will dissappear for a second every 10-15 seconds. This problem is accompanied by a drop in volume from the tomtom's loud speaker) I sent the tomtom back to the...

The latest Tomtom firmware is kind of unstable. Downgrade to 8.302 per this link. It will read the latest maps and is more stable. Also, it doesn't have the bug with "auto-adjust volume" like the newer software does. The biggest problem with app 8.302 is that it doesn't transmit directions over fm.

I have checked the battery and it's 3.6v
I searched the forum and found a tt one with the same issue and a helpfull member said it could be stress fracture on the main pcb.

I would take another look at the ribbon cable feeding the screen as it might not be seated under the retainer clip quite correctly, worth taking it out and re-seating it - Mike

When TomTom releases a map, there are multiple versions of the same map number, one for each model available and they are not interchangeable. So, even if you purchased a map for the Navigator, chances are quite likely you'll never get it to install.
Options?
Wait till 'Black Friday' when I'm sure you can pick up a new unit with maps for both Canada and the States for less than $90US....

People will probably be unlikely to discuss solutions to this problem because we don't want to give thieves the upper hand.

Have a look at the contents of the device using Windows Explorer, there should be a folder named "LoquendoTTS" but on your device its probably named "loquendotts" (note the caps difference as this is important. If your folder is all lower case there is an easy way to fix this, the issue is long established bug caused by early versions of the useless TomTom Home software when used to create ...

paulette,
I had the same problem -- subscription expired -- the rep I spoke with had me hang on the phone while it was reset (about 5 min) -- when he came back on the phone he said I was all set and that it would be good for 6 months -- he also said that they would be starting to charge in Sept. but I would still get the balance of the six months -- when I went out to my car it worked fine ...

You could try a reset of the unit and then see if Home is more co-operative.
Also, if the backup is made with Explorer, not Home, you could format the unit and then restore the most recent (working) backup.
