When I click on Open its just a blank white page with CD Writing Tasks down the side. And no it doesn't show any recognition of anything. Also shouldn't it make a pingy noise when inserting CD or DVD?

why not have a look at enclosures ? they only cost a few quid (both of mine cost a tenner each) and you add your own hdd, doing it this way means you can add the hdd you want and when its full add another, if the hdd fails then just take it out and replace it, hdd enclosure

Hi dbl057311. SS and earthling know more than I do on these things but E talked me through fitting a new HDD and we used free version of Macrium Reflect. Apart from me being a bit thick at one point it all worked fine, and the laptop is running like a well oiled sewing machine now.

This doesn't sound like a virus skimble. Sounds more like this game overstressed your graphics card causing it to overheat. Now it's booting again I'd just see how it goes for a day or two.

You're right - the spasmodic BSOD does make analysis more difficult. However: (1) and (4) suggest that - for whatever reason - your Dad's PC doesn't 'like' Bit Defender with something else (like Tiscali software, or elements of SP3), that they're are not playing nicely together. Why don't you try an alternative like Microsoft Security Essentials just to cover yourself for the time being...

My son has a Dell I think it's the model before that one, very pleased with it. The Dell is only one with HDCP and it's most power efficient and it's widescreen. If it was a choice between the Asus and the Samsung it would have to be the Samsung for me. The last one I've never heard of,it's the most expensive but it does have the fastest response rate. Decisions decisions. Hope some of this ...

AFAIK... you can't ordinarily add a hotmail account to an email client. At one time they did support it, for some time Outlook Express was able to do it. I believe that nowadays only "paid for" hotmail accounts can be accessed via pop3 etc. There was a time briefly (I learned about it on mailwasher forums) when they opened up access, but it seemed to stop working again fairly quickly. Mind ...

Who says "go faster stripes" don't work? we have just proved that it goes 19% faster. I would move the paging file onto the RAID disk. Should help when switching between applications. May not show up in disk performance stats, because it only makes a difference if paging is triggered.
