Thanks Wetdec - i'll be phoning you to order all the bits, just didn't want to harass you while i understand it all :O) The 1850x900 is for the larger room? Do we tank underneath the impey as well? Then the tiles from the step slope slightly to run the water into the tray if i'm reading right? Do you tank the whole room or just the wet area - i.e. above the step? How big of a tray would you suggest for the smaller room? Thanks

Ok, just got this floor finished,I must say it is a very time consuming process. The shower area took all morning, the rest of the bathroom in the afternoon(Luckily the TV!! wasn't installed ,grouting will wait until the walls are done, Thanks for the advice Faithhealer, I did as you suggested and dry-laid them, then marked the end points on the tiles, then relaid them on a level area and marked straight lines on the tiles with a straight...

Marmox Backer Boards for shower...
Published (2009-11-26 15:50:00)
thanks for the tip, I was thinking of using TileFix Direct, but I haven't looked around that much. Would a 10mm Marmox board be rigid enough to form the wall of the enclosure on a wooden frame? How heavy are they? I would only be able to use 25mm screws on 20mm battens, would that be enough to hold them up? And is the Mira 4400 tanking any good? Thanks

Glad you got round it despite the lack of help from us lot! Well done FH Is there some sort of optical illusion going on with that shower? In the first pic it looks like a standard size shower and in the second looks really wide! It looks as though it's going to be a great shower but if it is really wide then the system must have some pressure for those body jets to work... ahhh just noticed how high they've been placed allowing for...

The benefit of a membrane is it's ease of application and the fact that you can tile on it straight away. If you want to use a paint on tanking then Ardex WPC is good or Weber do one too - both are good .

You cannot use a dispersion adhesive for tanking membranes...
Cement based fast set....
If a shower is grouted in a none epoxy based grout and is used more than twice a day then IMHO it should be tanked as the grout never gets chance to dry out and this is when ingression sets in..
But in all honest opinion...If ALL showers were tanked then insurance comps would save a fortune....Any area...

Hello ryan and welcome...
If you have the oppurtunity to replace the sub-floor then i would...and put xtra supports/noggings in to help with deflection issues.
1200x1200 shower...is the 2 walls or 3..?
Adhesive wise..then an S1 flexible is fine( rapid setting) for the application of the membranes and then standard set flexi for tiling if you need more time to work with it.
