Thanks again, that was exactly it ! I had it on master, but moved to cs and all is good. Just need to find-a-friend now with a POTS line, I have vonage, and the s2 won't use my USB network adapter until the phone update. ~Scott

Go to mfslive.org for the proper tools. You cannot use Norton. Series 2 units use IDE (parallel) drives. Western Digital is the only major manufacturer still producing these drives.

Just picked up a WD10EAVS from Fry's for $80. This seems to be an OEM model with only 8MB cache. Anybody used this drive in a TiVo? Is the 8MB of cache going to be an issue? Thanks.

Have you checked the drive jumper settings? Most drives these days are set to "cable select" but it should be set to "master" for your S2.

This thread http://tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/sho...d.php?t=314 865 was my inspiration. Essentially IDE drives are becoming harder to find and with reduced sales volume the price has been increasing. Please reply with the following information especially if it didn't work. Did it work?: Details if answered NO TiVo Model: I would prefer tcd540040/TCD24008A but anything works Hard drive...

The readme for instantcake-tcd649DT-series-06012007.ver1.1-std.is o says it should support TCD24004A, but I imaged the drive and it's stuck at the "Welcome, Powering up..." screen. Would I be better off using instantcake-tcd240080-401b02.iso? Thanks. John

Lately it's gotten much much worse, and tonight i put my head next to it while my wife went through a few sections of the menu and i heard the hard drive doing multiple read seeking before the option would come up on the screen. I have 2 s3 units. The first unit started to have some issues with locking up, and I had a sata drive that I was going to use for backup, but will use it for my tivo now instead. S3.1 = unit stopped working S3.2 = unit completely fine. I downloaded Knoppix ISO and created a CD. So I first tried to copy S3.1 onto the new sata drive using dd. Got to 113Gb and had a read error, ...

My S2 was working - I wanted to upgrade from the orig 40 Gb drive. It the original Tivo Branded Series 2, TCD540040; but it seems I may have waited just a little to long to replace the drive. I used the MFS tools and created a back - the MFS Live Backup Image is 219,963,392 bytes, but every drive I have tried to restore it on gives this errors just before completing the restore: ...

Has anyone tried the SAMSUNG EcoGreen F2 HD103SI 1TB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA on a TiVoHD? I searched the forum and could not find any info. The reviews in newegg and tom's hardware are pretty decent... Just wondering whether the performance was adequate for the most demanding usage profile in the TiVoHD, which is presumably recording 2 streams and watching on? Thanks.

So, my sincere apologies if this has been answered before, but I've been Googling all day and haven't been able to find a suitable answer... I've got a WD 500GB drive that I'd like to put in my freshly-PROM-modded Series 2 TCD649080 TiVo. The drive has been formatted as NTFS and is unpartitioned at the moment... ...but I can't seem to get the PTVupgrade LBA48 v.4.04 boot disk ...

Caviar Blue 320Gb drives must be configured as master to run with Instantcake. when configured as cable select instant cake reports no drive present and quits. I am using Instantcake 6.2a. The Drive is extremely quiet.
