What bike for heavy woods rider.
Published (2009-12-21 15:32:00)
You know when you say "woods riding" that covers a broad spectrum of riding. It can mean some open single track with some roads and it can mean very tight hard trails with mean obstacles;rocks ,uphills, logs downhills etc. The biggest problem I have had and have experienced with friends with 4 strokes in the woods deal with overheating. It gets bad with 2 strokes too but the 4 strokes on the whole have it harder. If you are...

Im back and looking for a 250F!...
Published (2009-12-21 14:43:00)
The Yamaha's are almost bulletproof. Same with the KTM. Honda's can be sketchy depending on the care they receive. I'd find a really well maintained offroad 250F either a WR250F or a XCF-W, I rode Yamaha's for years and know that they're a good product. The XCF-W is just a step above in quality throughout. My KTM handles better than any other 250F I've ever ridden.....it's been revalved for me though. Valves...

cant go wrong with a 2 stroke ! cant beat em... let put it this way, i have 4 2t's and a 450... and id much rather blow the top end in one of the 2ts. it cost me about $2500 to rebuild that thing and cost me $310 to rebuild my 250 when i grenaded the piston in it! plus no valve adjustments is nice.
and theres hardly any maint. involved... change oil, air filter, clean it, grease it and ...

These are just the beginning thoughts of buying a new bike. About 7 years ago I was riding really well riding tracks, and racing hare scrambles in the adult class. (I was 14) I won the kids series in my area, so decided to run the adult B class. Was doing ok in a race and ended up getting hit by another rider, that threw me ...

.. just picked up a 2008 Yamaha WR250F with 50 miles on it. Stock, I really like the way the bike handles, but with the throttle stop, this thing is obviously very weak. I'm doing all the regular mods including full FMF Megabomb exhaust, jetting, airbox, gray wire, Boyesen Acc Quickshot 3 pump cover. The plan is to do ...

Try and find a KTM 250 or 300 EXC/XC. They "Feel" 30 lbs less than a 450 and have all the Woods work already done for you...There is a reason 70% of bikes at many Enduros are orange! The 300XC is a top pick of many big guys as it has a ton of grunt. My Buddy Jim is 6'6" 280lbs...He loves his 525EXC four stroke . I like it too just a bit heavy fo my taste on the side of a slippery hill....But ...

the 450 will have huge amounts of torque for trail riding where as with the 250 you will have to rev it alot harder. I would base the decision on weather or not you ride singe track. get the 250 if you do alot of single track but if your trails are just fire roads and hills get the 450 for sure.

Hi everybody,
I'm looking to get back into riding after a few years with my son. We were at a Honda dealer today and they have a brand new 2001 Honda CR250 on an overheard display. A wall mounted shelf sort of thing. I asked about it and it's brand new never rode and they want $3300 for it. My budget that I had allowed ...

I have a Crf150f currently, and I'm thinking about upgrading to a Crf230f. Is it worth it? Can you really feel a major difference between the two (as far as power and speed)? Thanks.

Pretty much what ever bike you buy, you will decide (with in a year usually) that you should have bought a diffrent bike.......
How much $$ do you want to spend?
The Drz400 is a great do it all bike
You might want to consider a used XT225 or new XT250 to start with......there alot lower, lighter and cheaper

crf150r would be a great choice if you want to do some motocross and all around riding, you will need to learn general maintenance very fast if you buy a mx bike though, or any bike really but motocross bikes require a little more than a normal dirt bike....otherwise get a crf150f trail bike if you dont think you'll want to get into racing

hey guys
iv been riding for a few years now on a crf 230 and need an upgrade...im 90-95kg and dont know which would be a better option..wr250/450 or a te310. Im not sure i want a 450 yet as it would be a giant step from a 230.. however i know the 250 would get old after a year and id want a bigger bike anyway...thats why ...

IMO the 250X would be a better fit for you over the 450. I just sold an 07 X and it was an awesome bike - for me it handled way better than my 06 KTM 400exc. Beleive it or not, it will blow away the KLX you're currently riding.

I think the 04 250exc are great bikes. $3000 is top dollard though. I've got a 04 300exc w/ 60 hours, super clean and ready to ride for $2650 and can't get anyone to even look at it....didn't really want to sale it but also wanted to get the kid off of the 250f and into a 450....
