You won't notice the difference between 13.5:1 and 14:1 compression. Many people (myself included) only use one compression ring on the stock 13.5:1 piston.

Jetting

Remove all Advertisements I seriously don't understand all this Jetting stuff. Pilot jets, leak jets, something a few clicks from the top...what does it all mean? My 07 YZ runs fine, would I bother touching any of that stuff? What jetting does my bike run as standard?

Worn Chain
Published (2009-12-03 18:57:00)
Got to the bottom run of chain. Push up on the bottom run until its tight with your left hand. The idea is to take all the slack out of the chain. Take your right and and pull the chain out away from the rear sprocket. If you can pull it out 1/4 of a tooth, its worn. If you can pull it out over 1/2 a tooth, replace it now. Some guys will replace one at 1/4 tooth. Others don't replace one until teeth start breaking off the rear sprocket....

Obviously a race bike, and presumably kept in good condition. Ride it. See if the bars fit and anything else that may be too personalized for the previous owner that would cost you $$$ to fix. Go in with a good offer.

I'm more intrested in the bennies of the 1 or 2 ring piston. GYTR just happens to make it in a 14:1 setup. I doubt bumping the compression .5 is going to make that big of a difference, but it's not going to hurt. I'm going to put a new top end in regardless, I'm just trying to decide who to go with. I like JE, I used there 14:1 in my TRX450R and have been pleased with it. 30+ hours and running strong. Just trying to expand...

You could lose the kickstand, either take it off or order the yz style footpeg mount, they cost 18 bucks. The yz 250f has a few stock titanium parts that the wr doesn't have, and they are around from time to time on craigslist and ebay. You could swap the rear shock spring for a stock yz250f titanium spring. There are also a few years of yz250f/450f that came stock with titanium footpegs, ...

#175 main jet, #45 pilot jet, Needle is in the #4 from the top groove I believe, and the leak jet is a #70. That is U.S. spec and I am not sure it there are any slight differances between the Euro setup and ours. The leak jet effects the acclerator pump. The higher the # of leak jet the less fuel is squirted into the engine. I usually run a # 40 leak jet to help eliminate the hesatation when you...

I havent used any high compression pistons in the 250F's so I cant comment on the GYTR piston but I will say this. I think going much higher than the 13.5:1 compression that the 08-09 YZ250F's have is going to start to defeat the purpose of running a higher compression piston. For the cost of that piston you would be better off having the head ported. Your not going to gain much more power with ...

lets get the idle issue figured out first. The best thing you can do is get a small tach that reads off induction. Sounds to me like your pilot jet is lean. IF you pull your hot start on idle the bike should rev momentarily then back down to a rough idle. As for top end is the bike loading up or missing? Do the issues come in at mid throttle opening or closer to full.
on a side ...

I tried the pvc method and gave up. You need the weight and precision of the real seal driver. I just show up at my local dealer with the forks together and they just gab the tool, smash them into place, you hand them coffee money and walk away.

Sounds like you have most of it.
The problem with LED's is that they require very little power and do not provide enough load on the flasher for it to work properly you need to install a load equalizer. This can be purchased and installed in line or you can make one. if you purchase one it is going to be about $30 or you can go to radio shack and ...

On cleaning the filter, some guys use turpentine. Personally I just buy the replaceable units.
On the oil, I'm not sure I'd use the 20-50 this time of year since that's pretty thick. A lot of the guys do use Rotella T 15-40. Its readily available, reasonably priced, and a good oil, I've used it too. Keep fresh oil in there for long engine life !!

Just go to your local Yamaha dealer and buy or order one. My Yamaha shop carries the little fuel screw O-rings and washers in stock.

Have you rode it with choke on and bog goes away? If so sounds like possible lean condition or accelerator pump issue. May need to raise needle up 1 position...can't remember what mods or jetting you were running.
