The moral of this story is if you want to spend a few days in Andalucia, it's a bad idea to start by flying into somewhere 1000 kms/600 miles away. I see 4 days allocated to Andalucia, of which around 1.5 days will be taken up with travel. By "days" I mean daylight hours. You'll get one full day in Seville, and then one full day in Granada. I think I'm beginning to understand what your friends mean by "doing"...

London won't give you a real taste of Europe Neither will Amsterdam, Paris or Rome. They will show you just one side of the Netherlands, France or Italy.

Hi Nautiker, This is what they told me: Hieronder informatie betreffen de Tuinen Mien Ruys. Firstly, I presume from your other post that you are aiming for Caen? I don't know of any flights to that area, certainly not from Brussels, and certainly not for anywhere near cheap... i may be wrong, of course. search around for options, i'm sure google can help. for train, it's not too hard. Thalys has direct, frequent and fast trains from Brussels to Paris (about 1.5 hours). Then there is a direct SNCF train to Caen from...

Thanks Aribo, I should not have asked as that's exactly the reason why I never want to eat Italian food abroad :) Artemis, I don't know.... Maybe Italians are the biggest foodies you know of, but I know very few people who enjoy food as I do. I'm not referring to people on a diet, but more generally to people who are simply uninterested in food. I wonder, how can one be uninterested in food? It's like being uninterested in...

The Al Hambra in December

My two visits of the Alhambra were a long time ago, before all the hassle to get into it, but the Alhambra probably hasn't changed. It isn't small (especially not when you add Generalife) and it deserves your time. Entering at 3 or 4 pm would be too late in my opinion, in order to see it in a relaxed way before closing time, if that is 6pm. I would follow the advice given above and buy your tickets for an earlier enterance.

Are Eurail passes worth it?
Published (2009-11-26 20:46:00)
Agree with bjd - eurail can be cheaper if you are just comparing the price of it with walk up on the day point to point tickets. There are lots of discounts to be had on european trains, particularly in Germany, France and Spain by buying ahead. Of course you lose spontaneity by booking ahead but if reducing costs are a priority you just need to accept that. Another argument against passes is that people are tempted to take a lot of journeys...

Well Ogie I will leave it to the readers to decide who is a jackass. In the meantime, you can continue to just give them directions to the cliff and comfort yourself with the thought that it's their choice to jump.

TrenItalia is often slow to update its online system to reflect the annual mid-December timetable change - it sounds like they are part way through the update now. Look at early December to get an idea what the timetable is like, then check the exact times for your dates of travel later in December.

The former prison in Hohenschönhausen is highly recommended. Former prisoners do the tours and tell visitors about the conditions, not for anyone suffering from claustrophobia! If you're in Berlin on Wednesday, there is a tour in English at 2:30pm. If you understand German, there are tours from Monday to Friday at 11, 13 and 15. http://en.stiftung-hsh.de/ If you cannot go there, there is a...

Most of the Christmas markets (Weihnachtsmarkt(e)) in Cologne are fairly close to each other. You can easily walk to all of them in one day. They all seem to have different cups for gluehwein which make nice (kitsch) souvineers.

But our experience in England has been that you pay WAY more when you buy tickets the day of travel. Same in France. Another thing is that the fast trains, e.g. the TGVs from Paris Est to Strasbourg, do require compulsory seat reservations. While such a reservation is in theory possible until minutes before departure, trains can sell out in France. And just before Christmas this is not ...

What are your (and your family's) interests? "Must see places" aren't the same for everyone (e.g., one might want to visit museums, someone else just do outdoor activities, etc.). I agree completely. We see so many posts that treat 'Europe' as one homogenous mass, even when it comes to climate. It always reminds me of that analogy of a kid in a sweetshop. I've even pointed out that there are countries where the regional differences are as pronounced as the differences between two countries. I don't know what the answer is either unless someone can find a good ...

Hi, I don't know any Korean grocery in Aix-en-Provence, but there is a Japanese-Korean restaurant: Yoji, 7 avenue Victor Hugo, tel. 04 42 38 48 76. In case you don't get any helpful reply, you may want to call them and ask them where they buy their kimchi, or maybe they can sell you some. Good luck!

Don't worry, I'll be kind on you ;-) However, I'm affraid you won't like what I'm going to tell you no matter if I tell you nicely or bluntly... Poor Irish. I just saw the French goal ; if you ever need to explain what "offside" is, you can use this link, and Gallas definitely used his hands. Let me understand. You're in Palma and there're not enough things to see and do in Mallorca and want to waste half a day to fly or take a ferry to Spain mainland, and then another half a day to get back to Palma. Have I got it correctly? That's not an option I'd consider, but given your limited time, I'd choose Valencia. It's got a lovely historic centre. Don't miss the Lonja, and if there ...

10 days? London and Paris. Only. 3 hours sitting on a train between the two. City centre to city centre. Forget flying, or taking the bus. Any other city will take the best part of a day to get there - and the best part of a day to return. 5 days in London and 5 days in Paris. Enough to give you a fairly good feel for both.

If I read your 'itinerary' correctly you intend to go to all these places in a total of 14 days, yes? If so. "Is it doable?" Yes. "What would you change about it?" Everything. 14 days is nowhere enough to do much more than just pass through these places. If you've not been to these cities before most people, and I'd agree with them, would say that the likes of London, Paris and Rome ...

they are the rules that all of Europe seems to be under the impression apply (except, it seems, people who post on these forums to tell you how complicated it all is) Europe and Schengen are two totally different things.
