To vote, one has to be a registered voter. It's not like you can turn up on election day and hand in your ID... And many citizens are not registered voters and it is not illegal not to vote. And voting does not make one more patrotic or anything.

There was a Western guy that used to run a bookstore at Zakia's a few years back. He told me some of the stories about things that happened to him and other expats that hung out with some of the touts at Zakias. Almost unbelievable tales of the base stupidity of people looking for "sex, and drugs, and rock 'n roll". Despite this he thought that Medan was the best place in SE Asia ("better than Patpong"). Always...

what kind of cash do we need, euro or dollars? For the Philippines? Pesos. For the US? USD. For Eurozone? EUR. You don't believe you're going to pay for a can of beer and a packet of cigarettes in USD or EUR, do you?

TAILORED SUITS IN KUALA LUMPUR

I've had two suits made by a tailor named Smart Suit. Paid RM 1100 for each. They are located on the 1st floor of the BB Plaza mall on Bukit Bintang. In the same mall there is a tailor named Page where I had some shirts made. Also not bad.

Why not do your backpacking trip the other way around - starting from Singapore and heading to Thailand? As you obviously know Singapore is not a "developing country"; it's one of the most developed countries in the world so your sister won't have any issues there. And then Malaysia's not far behind - it's planning on being an officially "developed country" in ten years time, and it almost certainly will...

There are most likely direct buses between BSB and Kuching. If I were you, I'd break the journey up in Sibu and take a boat from Sibu to Kuching.

This is really unfortunate. Pulau Weh/Aceh will undoubtedly suffer another blow to tourism because of it.

Well, if air fare is in your budget, you can take Air Asia to Langkawi. I like the AB Motel. 100 rm/night and it's right on the beach. That's a good price for what you get.
The other option would be to take a plane out of Subang to Tioman. However, it's a different airline and the tickets might be out of range. Besides, in March there's no guarantee of great weather.
You could also ...

i don't know about surabaya, but they are very hard to find in jakarta if you can find them at all (and i went into numerous shops and was not able to buy them at all). definitely bring them from home, or if you visit bali first, you can get them quite easily in the tourist areas.

I have been to Indonesia 12 times. I would increase your budget to at least 50 Euros per day.

You're going to get the usual Langkawi, Perhentian and Tioman suggestions -- so I'll go a different route.
Take a good look at East Malasyia (aka Borneo). It has two states: Sabah and Sarawak. In Sabah, you can stay at a nice hotel in Kota Kinabalu (KK), and day trip to the islands that form a national park (but of trivia: the first "Survivor" was filmed there). There is nice beach and ...

For tourists: If you are going to Lajke Sebu, Tboli (South Cotabato) it's ok.

The PIs is pretty spread out, you'll find small amounts of travelers in a lot of places. There's a couple of 'backpacker' trails, the northern rice terrace trail or, more appropriate for you, Palalwan. 3 weeks would be an amazing length of time to spend there, plenty of time to chill and do all there is to be done. Fly into Puerto Princessa and out of Coron or vice versa. You can avoid Manila by ...

Palompon Leyte is where I live when in the Philippines. It has some cheap, basic resorts. Palompon is about 6 hours by slow boat from Cebu City. If you travel on a slow boat in the day time, there is a very high probability of seeing dolphins. It is about P1000 per night to stay in a hut at Juan Titang beach resort. It is not really a resort as most westerners would imagine. It is just a ...

The bus journey from Malacca to Singapore is approximately 3 hours. Assuming you take the earliest bus into and latest bus out of Singapore, 7am and 8pm respectively, you will have 10 hours to well, see Singapore. Exhausting but if well planned, it is feasible.
