Colombian Cedula - student visa
Published (2009-11-21 17:06:00)
It used to be a requirement for stays over six months, with the option to register if you were there for between three and six months, (Article 114 of DECRETO 2107 / 2001), but now a Cédula has to be obtained if the stay is anything over three months. Si usted es un ciudadano extranjero mayor de edad titular de una visa para Colombia, con excepción de los titulares de visa preferencial y los visitantes, con vigencia superior a tres (3)...

Colombian Cedula - student visa
Published (2009-11-21 10:54:00)
Mt cedula isn't for a student visa, it's because I'm married so I can work in Colombia. I got mine at the DAS office in Bogota. I think it costs about $50 but it may be more. Take all of your visa paper work to the DAS office and they will tell you what more you need including an account number where you will have to pay the fee and get a receipt. It will include some photos, copies of your visa and passport as well as a...

"trouble looking up transportation " Before we go to a lot of trouble for nothing........So what did you do and where exactly did you already look? Can we assume you are an intelligent internet user (who reads/knows how to translate Portuguese) or someone who hasn't the smallest clue? Popular locations for Carnaval are not likely to bargain about reducing their package length when they know they will be full up with people who...

Car Insurance - Chile
Published (2009-11-21 20:35:00)
I am not sure, but I think your friend is going to have to insure it as you do not own the car and he is not a rental company. The only short term insurance I know of is for international trips, taking the car out of Chile. All cars have obligatory third party insurance and you must carry the receipt with you when driving. The easiest is for your friend to check with insurance companies here if they can provide short term insurance. All he has...

I'm not sure about arranging tours, as we rented a car and drove ourselves, something worth looking into if you want to spend more time at sites. I have heard that tours from Puerto Madryn spend a lot of time on the road and not much time at sightseeing. Also consider going to Punto Tombo to see the penguins, south of Trelew, also easy with a rental car.
Puerto Madryn is much bigger and ...

RE: the Gran Chaco, I can't think of anyone who runs tours in the area -- there probably aren't -- although I do have two suggestions:
1) You could take the road south from Santa Cruz to Camiri by bus and then hitch eastwards into the park. You're going to be on your own and there are few, if any, services there. You would probably be able to stay at a private residence if you ask.
2) The ...

Don't worry they always make things out to be worse than they actually are - We're off in a week and a half from Australia and not worried - second time this year and not worried at all. Just be streetwise and avoid the no-go areas - just about everywhere in the world has them. Taxis are cheap just be aware of your surroundings at all times - ie be alert but not alarmed.

Cochabamba is a Morales stronghold. But so are a lot of other places -- there are exceptions of course... Departments of Sta Cruz, Tarija just to mention two.
Word has it that Evo will win between 50-60 percent of the vote. Word of caution, stay far away from political rallies.

Have you read FHC's book, The Accidental President? The Brazilians is a pretty good book. You've gotta read about the Rondon/Roosevelt expedition, the River of Doubt.
I'm reading Ariano Suassuna at the moment.
