Hi Kelly, I'm sorry, I somehow missed your entry about having the dilation. I don't know how because I've been watching for it. I'm glad to hear that you are getting some food into you and that your weight is going up a bit and life might be normalizing as well. I sure hope things keep on improving for you...you deserve it. (((( hugs ))))

what was the day of surgery like?
Published (2009-11-11 19:45:00)
I was so calm in the end it surprised even me. I slept well the night before, although I had to get up at 5:30 a.m. to get ready and make it to the hospital for check-in at 7:30 a.m. I breezed through the check-in and went up to the pre-op waiting room. In about 15 minutes they came for me. They prepped me really quickly, except for the IV. I am a notoriously "bad stick." They had to get an expert with that. They issued me a...

Therapy after WLS
Published (2009-11-10 20:02:00)
I'm not seeing a therapist/psychologist right now, however I so think its a good idea. I use to see one, and I loved it.....I found it was so nice to talk to someone that was so totally out of my circle of family or friends. A neutral person..I miss going, and I plan on starting back.....There were times I just went in there and let her have it, or I would just spend the whole 45 min to and hour crying. Whatever I needed, she was cool...

Kim, I would take the time to write a letter of complaint about this woman's unprofessional behavior to the state psychiatric board and/or her employer if she has one. It is none of her business what length your nails are, what type of makeup you wear, how you dress, etc. Even if they do nothing, it's in her record so that the next complaint will get some 'sit up and attention' notice that this woman has a problem. .

Corrine makes a good point. It is important to consider the costs after surgery. You will have multiple follow up appointments with your surgery, and that's just if all goes well. You will have labs drawn several times in the first year after surgery. I have heard some people say their grocery bills went down after surgery since they don't eat as much and they don't buy snack food or soda. But mine went up. I used to eat a lot...

surgery wednesday

You know what?! Look at the goal, this week will be a blur as you busy yourself with all those last minute things like house cleaning, finishing up work enough to leave for a bit, and then before you know it, you're having your last drink of water before surgery. The day will come, and basically you'll be changing into your OR garb, getting an IV, and then basically, you'll wake up and it'll all be over--and you'll be...

It was very exciting for me. I was nervous, but I think I was more excited than nervous. My surgeon was three hours from my house and I had to be at the hospital at 6 am, so Mike and I stayed overnight in a hotel the night before. We got up, drove to the hospital. They got me changed into a gown and started an IV. Then we just hung out for a couple hours. The surgeon came in and talked to ...

Yes, I told a friend who flat out said she was jealous especially when I got smaller than she was. I told her I didn't do it for vanity purposes but health reasons and if it made her feel better at the end I would have saggy baggy elephant skin

How long before you have surgery?
Sounds like you've been offered a free trainer.
Take her up on her offer!! Work your butt off with her and keep on the WLS path.
Then when it's time to walk into that OR, you can decide if you still need help or not.

Donna, I don't know what to say to you, other than you are in my thoughts and prayers. One thing I did notice about your post: you AREN'T losing it. You can still write, girl!
Hang in there. I truly hope this team of docs can fix you. God bless.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I'm sure it is very frustrating. I can certainly understand about being financially challenged. I am disabled and on a limited income, and I have a LOT of medical expenses, and I get no help at all from my family.
Just a thought I had... do you normally get a good-sized income tax refund? Maybe you could use that for your copays.

I have not had surgery yet, but I am in therapy currently at the practice that did my psych consultation. This practice works exclusively with eating disorders and I have found my sessions there to be very helpful. They have monthly groups sessions for post ops as well to help them stay motivated and committed. I plan to continue this after surgery as well.

You have a boyfriend and a fiancee?
Yeah, i'm totally confused here. Personally I've thought you jumped into this WLS blind to the emotional changes and took it with a grain of salt (which isn't good). I've seen your FB and such, with the partying, the drinking, the guys. It's not something I would do, but that is me.
I don't understand much of your story, but get rid of the all the ...

Definitely a great way to begin in my opinion and congratulations! Like you, I quit smoking right away--have no regrets in the least! I rarely drink, so that wasn't anything for me to worry about. LOL, coffee has been the vice I am missing more than anything from my old life!
I'm still pretty green post-op but I can tell you that it is so worth giving up the vices! I feel an energy ...

You look beautiful. Date black men. They appreciate the curves. And be
confident and sexy. People respond to that.

First of all you are not a horrible mom. It is true children watch us and learn about what's acceptable and what's not. You may have a problem with food, but you are doing something about it. Hey, you know what? She's still watching.
The only thing I know to do with feelings is to feel them. Or I can start to try to cover them up with something else. Maybe a new hobby? Bowling is fun....
