Australian farmers are known as "cockies" since their activities resemble a cockatoo scratching a living from the soil. One cockie won a fortune in the lottery. His neighbors were scandalized when he sold up and left for the bright lights of the city. "With that much money," they said, "He could have kept farming for years."

But if you're going line by line, spec by spec, wouldn't that have to include software? Apple doesn't delineate between the two. Whereas when you build your own PC, you do. I'm just saying that if this is not accounted for, it distorts the price.

Being Turkey Day and all here in the States, we would be amiss to let this day pass without one Thanksgiving Day story. The Grandmother was having the extended family over for Thanksgiving Day turkey, dressing and all the trimmings. As always, it was a family affair with each family contributing to the feast. Grandmother's not so favorite daughter-in-law had agreed to bring the turkey and cook it at the gathering. Always one for a little...

. During the war, Pekka and Toivonnen were stationed in England. They spent one of their leaves partying in London. It was a long night of hard drinking, and unseen by the bartender, they fell asleep under a table in a dark corner. This was during the blitzkrieg, and that night the German bombers really ravaged London. Toivonnen was the first to wake up, many hours later. He looks around and sees a hellish scene of broken glasses and bottles...

A house painter is cajoled by his minister to repaint the front of the church at a much reduced rate. Starting the job, he thinks to himself that the paint is pretty thick so he can certainly get away with a bit of thinner. As the job progresses, he realizes that even the thinned paint isn't going to finish the wall, so several times he adds a little more thinner to make the paint cover the area remaining. As he finally finishes and...

Where you run into trouble with comparisons is starting with a PC config and trying to match it with a Mac instead of the way tlarkin has done it. It's a stacked deck. No way the Mac can win on price. Hence the thriving FrankenMac community.
Whenever somebody starts this argument I ask if the non-Mac supports Target Mode.
If not, I'm not interested. I'm not even interested in Macs that ...

You know how if you are looking at a purchase but you decide it's not what you wanted you try to bow out of the transaction gracefully? I hate when a salesman won't take no for an answer and they keep pushing and finding counter arguments to whatever reason you had for not wanting whatever you were looking at. Know what I mean? The best salesmen are there when you need them, present the facts ...

Holy s**t! I didn't realise that the healthcare reform was being actively sabotaged to that degree. If that thing passes, it'll be worse than the current situation. Well, for everyone but the insurance companies.
As I see it, the article serves to highlight the core problem with democracy these days (in the US and UK at least). Put simply, the vast majority of those in power see themselves ...

Some people think we've already hit peak oil. I don't think so. I think that when that happens, and it will happen, there will be no way to keep it a secret. That's when the financial markets will really be in turmoil. We may look back on this period as a good time.
