Prevent iTunes from launching when you insert a Music CD by opening your System Preferences, then CDs & DVDs pref pane. Change the setting for When you insert a Music CD: There's a drop-down to change to something else, or to ignore a Music disk. Easy enough for changing how your disk is set up for a burn. Finder - File menu - New Burn Folder Name that folder whatever you like. Drag your stories files into the folder, and rename...

You do not know the name of the file? Kind of hard to find with out that. If you do find it you can right click on it and then select 'get info' from the menu. This will show you where it is and how big it is.

Thanks chabig, only few converters work with Mac OS. The three that I have tried before posting this message did not satisfy me.

iTunes keeps on muscling in

A friend told me I could go to iTunes preferences and stop it from launching itself whenever I put a CD into the hard drive, but I couldn't see anything in preferences that looked like the right thing. Also, as I'm working with my own CDs of stories - two of them, ten stories in all - but would like to re-arrange them and burn new masters, I'm wondering how I convert the files (iTunes, numbered tracks) into files Toast will...

Safari Disk Activity

It is perhaps the "top sites" feature that is causing this. Safari will download and store the content of the pages that you have visited most frequently or that were chosen by default ("top sites") periodically in the background. You can disable this via Safari preferences.

You have an Intel Mac, and even the next newer version was universal, and would run natively on the intel processor. Your version '05 does not run natively on your Mac. iWork has come a long way since that first version 05. Snow Leopard appears to have dropped support for your old version. The fix will be - upgrade to a newer version of iWork.

Do you mean user account? If so, are the accounts going to be local and in /Users? Will there be multiple accounts on the same machine? I just wrote a script for a guy on a mailing list I am on to help him promote all users to admin. I could modify it and change it to delete accounts, but I would need more info from you first.

DiskDoubler is dead. I would decompress all your files on the old Mac and back them up NOW. There is an OS X utility which can expand some files, but not all, from DD archives: http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html This exposes the fragility of digital data. Admittedly, the use of open standards will increase the likelihood that a format will be supported long into the future...

That's not spying on you, that's the website trying to see how many visitors it has. Website owners use it as a helpful tool to see what pages are popular, and find where people are getting stuck or leaving. It's similar to (but more advanced that) those hit counter things. Is Spaces full of bugs or am I missing something? 1. Why does the yellow minimize button disappear (seemingly randomly) on some apps that are being used with spaces? 2. Your Final Cut Pro has both printed and electronic documentation in the box, which makes a good increase in the size of the box just for the manuals. Are you saying you didn't get any of the manuals with your purchase? There's lots of resources including tutorials through the Apple web site. http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/resources/

A Paypal button is just a simple form. Set things up in PayPal, get the button code, and paste it where you want it to go. If iWeb doesn't like to paste html code open the file in TextWrangler and do it there.
