That's horrible that no one was willing to take a later flight in order to help those poor young men get home! What a really sad commentary of the state of America As much as I would want to see family at Thanksgiving, I know they would be willing to postpone the meal so that we could give our seats to the Marines. Our minor inconvenience pales next to the sacrifices that servicemen & women make every single day. Praying that the...

Well, I for one would like them to keep thier flu to themselves, thankyouverymuch. Besides, there's no reason Thanksgiving couldn't be celebrated next Wednesday or last Sunday...when everyone is thankful they are not sick. Its just a fancy date on the calendar, really - we can be thankful any old day.

My personal answers, depending on the person and situation: "I've homeschooled for 10 years in 2 different states and was actively involved with many local homeschooling families in both states. I've participated online with hundreds of families and I've NEVER personally met a family that meets the sweeping generalizations and inaccurate stereotypes you describe." or "Stop bashing homeschoolers. Train wreck -free here. Well, at least on my end...not sure if other folks would have stories. The toddler did spill something on the lace tablecloth, but that didn't matter to me. There may hae been poltical discussions which showed extreme liberalism, & may have offended any conservatives (although the conservatives didn't offend me). As far as I am concered, it seemed like a lovely day!

I would call a nurse line and ask for a recommendation for a stool softener that is appropriate for her age. I would rather give that a chance to work then to take a child to an ER filled with sick people.

I recommend going to Gamestop. They have a better return policy than just about everybody else and they also have used systems. The Wii Fit Plus is better than Wii Fit, so that's what I'd recommend. You need two remotes and two nunchucks. I also recommend getting a charger system. The remotes burn through batteries pretty fast. The Wii Fit board doesn't burn through them as much.

Make sure they go to bed early enough to wake up early enough.
Our routine -
wake up, come out to the living room and they get to watch a bit of cartoons to wake up. I come to the WTM board to wake up.
get dressed, make bed, make breakfast.
We start school at breakfast when I do our history read-a-loud.

I just ordered it from Amazon (they had it for $24.99). It hasn't arrived yet, but my dd10 fell in love with the video advertisement. I get the feeling it's similar to Webkinz.
I'm curious what other people think too!

What book was that? The one from Debi Pearl called Created to Be His Helpmeet. If that's the one I'll add my 2 cents. I have that and I've read it and I love it. Again, as you say, it isn't for everyone. But is for me!!

Oh. My. Goodness. I would absolutely go, together, to P's mom. And then assuming she gets angry or blows you off (the most likely outcomes), I would go, together, to the police and report it, as well as the mom's response. You may lose friends over this, or then again, perhaps someone has been hoping someone else would have the courage to stand up. This is just WRONG. All that it takes for ...

11 year old is getting American Girl stuff and sewing supplies.
13 year old is getting a few Scout things and money.
15 year old is getting a couple of books and more fencing for her animals.

Right now the topic is usually led by dh. Football. More specifically, Minnesota Vikings. My girls have in depth knowledge of players, stats, and on and on.
I might come join you for dinner.

"That IS interesting! I've not met ANY homeschoolers that fit that description. If fact, it was all the WELL-educated homeschooled students that convinced us to give it a try! [big smile]"

I am sorry to say, my first inclination after reading your post was to laugh hysterically. There are NO "inexpensive" places anywhere near DC. Anywhere. Your choices are horrendous vs. more outrageous vs. less outrageous. Now, there sure will be lots of cultural events, places of interest, and homeschooling networks. No problem there. But inexpensive? No. Sorry.
