OOh, I will have to look that one up. We already do some analysis with our SL but I have to add more detail to it. It isn't as in depth as I'd like.

How advanced is his math? I'm not sure if pg kids are doing Algebra by 4 or not, so I'm going to suggest some things that don't involve Algebra skills. Chemistry 2 by Real Science 4 Kids might work well for a start. The reading level is about grades 7-9, and this may fill in some gaps. Naturally, pg or not, at 4 you'd need to help with actually doing the experiments. There's a college level Chem text called Conceptual...

Look up the lexile levels of books, put lots on hold at the library and enjoy your child's enthusiasm. http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/reading_levels.htm is a great source of help. Look up the lexile levels of books. My child enjoyed reading through an entire series of books, say all Harry Potter books or the entire series of Unfortunate Events. Then we would see the movie (s). Have you read Charlotte's Web, tried a Shakespeare play or...

I answered on the other thread, but I'm reposting here: I've found their products to be hit and miss. I order promiscuously during their yearly clearance sale ($1 and $2 per book), but end up not using much of this material. Often it's too classroom oriented for our needs. I find though that the previews give a good indication as to the nature of the book. Here's what we have used and plan to use. I think Prufrock is a...

How old is he and how long has he been playing?
My experience with most people is that the kind of ear training you are talking about is developed over time. It takes a few years of musical experience to recognize the difference between a major or minor third, or to hear that something is a fifth or sixth. I don't know if people with perfect pitch also automatically have that kind of ...

I haven't used the William and Mary stuff yet, although it looks interesting. I can speak to the MCT materials. We are using Grammar Island level right now. I also have FLL to compare it to.
The difference is the level at which it is pitched on Bloom's Taxonomy , I think. FLL assumes that the child needs to be hit over the head repeatedly with drill (okay, I realize this is a WTM board...

Is this for the four year old? And what level of religion do you want in your text?
Do you expect to be doing the reading and him listening? Or doing experiments? Or something else? What are you looking for?
Sorry for all the questions, I will try to come up with ideas but I need some more information.

I have never seen the younger yrs, but I am not impressed with the high school level courses.
My favorite lit program for the middle school/early high school level ages is Literary Lessons from LOTRs. My kids have really learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the program. I do it over 2 yrs and take lots of time on the unit studies which are what the study so valuable. We also do almost...

I used it several years ago (although with a typical child and not gifted) and I'm not sure what you'd get from it in your situation. I guess it depends on what your goal is. The series jumps pretty quickly in comprehension/inference type questions.
If you are just looking for Reading Comprehension workbooks I do use and prefer Reading Comprehension Varied Subject Matter.

If you want placement information from the test, and the test reflects your state's expectations, then the recommendation is to test until your child reaches 50%. Then you can say your child is at the point of an average child at that level. That is what I have been told on the Davidson Forum. We never went that far. The test doesn't necessarily reflect our state. It really isn't used here. ...

I have the catalog and definitely plan to give some things a whirl like the Primary Grade Challenge Math and there's a Patterns Curriculum for 1st grade. Order the catalog and check it out!

What about letting him play around with Hands on Equations? http://www.borenson.com/
We haven't used it (it sits on my shelf awaiting my younger DS7's interest) but it looks like a good way for younger kids to play around with algebraic concepts.
My DS9 was interested in algebra early, so he has started doing Thinkwell Beginning Algebra alongside his regular work in Singapore 4B. I ...

DS5 did more than one session early on. He started at the K level and would do 3-4 sessions a day when we started as it was way too easy for him. Now that he is at almost 3rd grade lvl he typically only does 1 session a day most days.
He has had some sessions complete in less than 20 mins when he was answering a lot of questions. Now he answers anywhere from 16-30 questions depending on his ...
