Do the majority of the 386 and 486 IBM PS/2 computers come standard with some type of sound card? I sure hope they don't just have the internal speaker. Thanks. Barney

Actually you can do 600mhz in the P5A, at least on the later K6-2+ and K6-III+ chips that were capable of hitting such speeds. 120mhz bus speed is a little touchy (I have a P5A and have tried it), but it seems comfortable at 112mhz. While it could take 768MB RAM, most revisions could only cache 128MB. That could be remedied by using either a + series K6 chip with the on-chip cache, or using one of the later revision boards (which,...

It's strange that the BIOS requires you to select a drive type, since a SCSI drive can report its configuration (unlike an MFM drive). What's the SCSI controller in the box?

One really simple test to see if your lpt1 port is working or if it's a driver issue is to connect the printer to your parallel port and just echo something to it. (echo testing123 > lpt1 and see if it prints that. If so then your parallel port is working and it's an OS/driver issue. There's also the debug trick to see if your BIOS has it properly mapped. Here's a little info on that...

It is not something I do very often, but when I do, Amidiag is very thorough. It does parity, pattern, walking 1s, walking 0s, address test, and refresh test. By the time you've sat through all that you'll never want to do that again. Smaller, free or shareware programs are available from simtelnet's Computer memory info and management utils .
