I had similar problems with my T4400c, I ordered some "for parts" T4400c and another laptop on eBay, tried to repair it, ended up deciding the HDD controller had conked out. The other T4400c was dead
beyond repair, and the third one was a monochrome (not what I wanted), and wasn't compatible with the T4400c screens it seems.
I hate to tell you but it might just be dead - hopefully I'm wrong ...

Hm. That's actually a relevant (not sure vintage but interesting) question. I'm kinda interested what folks have come up with too. Googling around I see a few things depending on the hardware it does have (IR =
universal remote control). If you have the ethernet enabled cradle a lot of folks hack those back to a serial connection and use it for a SLIP server for vintage machines (that have a ...

i learned assembly by cracking DOS games. heh.
I picked up one of those buckaroo bonzai art of cracking tutorials on some BBS way back when, got soft-ice debugger (used on a 386 or higher though) and picked up a few 80s DOS games that I knew were still protected with doc checks. My first crack was "harley davidson: road to sturgis" and then I remember doing
test drive III. Both were really ...

I wonder if (the cmos memory/rtc part of) the dallas chip is powered from the battery at all times & not only when the machine is off. it makes a bit of sense, one less diode-drop in the
battery path, and the time the machine is powered on is small in comparison with the supposed battery life.
If that were the case I'd guess the cmos can't be written to when the battery is completely flat....

Is it any similar to the HC-4600?
My model has this issue where the

Eh, yes. See for example the entry at Old-Computers.com . A bit of Google search will reveal a few more pages, although I doubt there is much material about it.

Apparently you can hook it to a PC for
data transfer or directly to a printer for printout, but the pinout uses a proprietary cable that I don't know if it comes with...

Hi,
The IBM AT Diagnostics/Setup disk works fine with this PC. I had the same problem on mine (sans keyboard error), and the reason why it needs the floppy disk is because the
CMOS battery is empty and thus the configuration has been lost.
My HDD also had a light case of stiction so it required a little whack on the side of the HDD to be able to spin up.
When you configure the HDD ...
