Big Blue Reader (C-64 Version)
Published (2009-12-05 06:57:00)
Honestly I think it is much easier and cheaper to get an X-series cable (XE1541, XM1541, XA1541 etc), if your PC has a parallel port. Since you imply your PC has a 5.25" floppy drive, it should have a fairly decent parallel port as well. The Big Blue and Little Red readers will read and write to a MFM formatted floppy disk. I think you even need internal modifications on your 1541 to use it, while a 1571 would work out of the box.

Sounds like it might be at least partly heat-related; maybe try cooling the various chips with a cooling spray or a well-wrung-out cloth soaked in alcohol?

C64 video problems
Published (2009-11-29 10:54:00)
Thanks Anders...yes, I couldn't help thinking it was terrible luck, regardless of how old the equipment is. I've actually used the same ps to test them all (a known good supply), so I know it isn't it. I checked and rechecked my pinouts (thinking of the old 5 to 8 pin differences, wondering if there were two 8 pin configurations or something) to no avail. Thanks for the link as well - I'll check that out and see if I can...

A3000D on the way
Published (2009-12-04 11:33:00)
Mostly it's a space saving move. I have my main machine (Windows), but sort of need a slower machine for vintage work, ie. disk images of other machines, and for development for my TI CC-40. Seems the PC Interface program was written with slower machines in mind and randomly crashes with faster machines. Besides, I like playing with DOS from time to time. That and I like the old game Faery Tale Adventure. I've beaten it several...

Big Blue Reader (C-64 Version)
Published (2009-12-05 04:39:00)
I've got a brand new copy right here! ..but it's commercial software, I don't think it's been widely distributed. There's a clone called Little Red Reader that did the same thing and was free, maybe that one would show up in a search.

Yes, the Vic-20 was the first "home computer" I ever saw. I remember being amazed at the colour graphics and different tunes it could make. Far more arcade game friendly than my System 80 although the 22 column screen width was a real limitation. It was the first computer my father ever bought. I'd moved out of home by then. It was more because he just loved the concept of owning a ...

My spontaneous question is why you want to convert an Amiga 3000 into a slightly inferior PC? It made sense in 1992 but it seems you would need a good reason to do it in 2009. Or perhaps you don't have room for a genuine 386 desktop so you would like to combine two into one. As for compatibility, you should check out EAGER . Although it only lists Amiga 500, 600, 1200 and CD32 I would think ...

I probably have. Perhaps someone more, depending who lives closer to you. Two key caps however weigh very little so postage costs overseas should not be a big issue.

Hi, Zimmers has schematics for most PET boards. Look on your board and find the matching schematics to find which chips you need to add and which jumpers to change. Not a lot of software will use that extra ram even if you do install it. But if you plan to write your own software that won't matter. Commodore did produce a "High Speed Graphics" board for the PET machines. This used ...

Hi all, This is a frustrating situation for me, lol...here are the details, perhaps someone has some thoughts on it. - 3 commodore monitors (2x1702, 1x1084s) all verified working on a C128 and a Vic-20 as well as a 64C - 1 working C64C (the while revision) tested on the monitors without problems (8 pin video) - 5 (yes 5...sigh) C64s that power up, but will not display (or even...
