Hi Paul. I have also followed Begbies over the past year or so in a half-hearted sort of way. Most of the companies in this field have been poor investments - Tenon (TNO) and Vantis have neither of them done very much, although Tenon are clearly the best of the two. The thing that puts me off with Begbies is the fact that although insolvency is obviously doing well, they seem consistently to not do as well in their other areas of business....

RBCRBC & Hywel Thanks for the info chaps and I have updated the spreadsheet. Shame the entrants who picked these shares couldn't have let me know of the changes at the time so we had the correct picture. NH

Hi hamish, What do they gain from having large organisation with lots of centres? I don't think there are clear benefits of economies of scale. I suppose you could argue that they have a certain level of expertise in dealing with the planning process and that they should have the know how to replicate a certain standard of exellence when rolling out new centres. Although anecdotale experience from certain fools seem to indicate poor...

Hi, Most of the replies are turning into rants about the Insolvency processes in the UK, either generally or for specific cases. I have to agree with a lot of it. The UK Insolvency processes are really dreadful - very slow, inefficient, highly complex legally often, and providing rich pickings for IP firms like BEG. Although I've not seen anything to suggest that BEG are anything other than a bog standard IP. One comment I would make...

Proselenes, I'm not sure I'd be in too much of a hurry to cash in WCC. Rapidly growing profits are locked in for the next 2 or 3 years & their competition trades on much higher multiples in Hong Kong. I top-sliced 20% of my holding when they doubled (for me) from ?1.60 to ?3.20. I intend to run the rest until at least the HK float. Looking at the experience of RCG & ACHL, I'd be very disappointed if they...

Can I also take this opportunity to remind the pub that CPT are due to regenotate their final core portoflio loan by end NOV, declare a special 8p dividend (hopefully), publish the renegotiated...

Couple of things ring alarm bells with me:- " Very selective in chosing potential site- they target area with high population density where there are at least 150k peole within a 10-minute drive I'm very sceptical of developer's travel times. I know that in my home town of 10,000 it can take 10 minutes or more to get from one side to the other at many times of day. " What I love about this business is that I am...

Those figure are from the interims. Taking the forecast for the full year ending 12/09 you get:... On this basis turnover is 34% of build cost, operating profit is 13.6% and PTP is 11.4%. Ahhh... my mistake. Apologies for not reading your initial post better. This looks far more interesting now! It seems to me like a business that is inherently "local" - customers aren't going to travel far to go to a particular centre,...

Hi Paul I agree this sector and BEG in particular looks attractive at the moment. The JV announced on 8-Oct strikes me as a promising development. I wonder if the Hemscott analyst consensus fully reflects this yet? ... although there isn't really a lot to go on numbers wise just yet, but "an excellent opportunity to raise our profile in the commercially important U.S. market, something which...

Hi, I'm amazed that the family shareholders at FDM have caved in, although I suspect they've been put under a lot of pressure, on an accept it or else type of basis. My approach was to say "bring it on" to management, and if they don't like their situation (of very high salaries & bonuses - the CEO got around £400k last year, for a £25m mkt cap AIM company, and he's still not happy ...

They have been mentioned in the past quite a lot, by me for one. All is going well and I have sold off a lot as the price has been rising. 50% of the remaining will go at over 500p and the final lot will go on listing in HK. Been a great run since the days of 100p levels for me, better so for those in at 50p levels not that long ago. But Chinese stocks are starting to get a little too pricy...

`joint Offer' HTH is quite a mixed bag. My guess is Assetco. They could come out smelling of roses by taking Carnation. don't hold but will watch with interest.

Hi David, I preface this post with the comment that I have this morning bought a few shares in Tandem, so what may appear to be a rather downbeat contribution should be balanced against my natural cynicism and prudence! Tandem have cropped a few times here over the years and always seem to disappoint. Despite TMF's notorious search facility, I've found a thread from 5 years ago and ...

Hi seb, nice write up, I know nothing about the company but one thing I would consider is how many of their sites are leashold and the length of the leases in place. The reason I say this is that we have a 5-A-Side centre (Not Goals) near us and they are closing down as the landlord will not re-new the current lease, the story is that he has been trying for planning permission for ...

Assuming this sort of thing becomes more common, what impact would it have on fixed line providers (e.g. BT) and mobile operators (e.g. Vodafone) ? Depends whether either of them are providing the backhaul. NeilW

Steve I reckon the forecast is a bit optimistic. PBT 2009 £20M, but with £15M charge for non-ongoing operations. PBT for ongoing operations of £14.4M means they need to make a 50% uplift to achieve the forecast P/E. I don't follow MAYG particularly, so maybe I'm missing stuff here? NH

F&C have 6 times as much assets under management per billion of market cap. If they could get to Schroders level, mkt cap would need to rise six fold i.e share price from 80p to 480p Why the disparity. I would have thought fees earned would be similar On that measure alone, FCAM is cheaper than the others. However, take a look at its balance sheet - with a market cap of 405m it has ...

Hi Steve, Many thanks for flagging this up. Looks like an interesting growth company, at a reasonable valuation (especially if you strip out the net cash from the PER). Don't really understand what they do, but the numbers speak for themselves in the current economic environment & I like the Directorspeak. Thanks again, have picked up a scrap for my odds & ends account. Regards, Paul...

Steve, thx for the credit (I'm rivaldo on ADVFN)! To clarify a little in terms of expectations, this year's broker forecasts average out at around 7.4p EPS from 3 brokers as follows: http://timesonline.hemscott.com/servlet/HsPublic?c ontext=tim... It's certainly true that CAR isn't cheap on fundamentals at 100p relative to 7.4p EPS, especially given that it has £17.5m net debt (which...
