So I've checked with the FSCS directly, by phone today: the situation presently is that the top-up scheme has no relevance to the Irish banks, since their national guarantee (for the next 2 yrs, currently) exceeds the FSCS protection level. What I was told, therefore, as the implications of this:- -In the event of the Irish Bank failing, it'd be solely up to the Irish Government to pay up. -If the Irish Government were unable to do...

I opened a 7 day notice a/c with them a few weeks ago. The quite large sum of money stayed in my 1stD current a/c for 3 weeks earning zilch. They are really slow. The 5.75% bond sounds a good deal so I'll probably have some of that too. Like you I'll not transfer it immediately. philrab -

If you get a savings account with them, you can get 2.25% gross AER with instant transfers. I'll be sticking with them, as they have by far the best customer service.

Does anyone know what happens to the return on NS&I Index Linked Saving Certificates if RPI goes negative? Capital is guaranteed.

What to do wtih 20k

Thanks, here is what I have done with it - Put 15k into a savings certificate with NSandI for 3 years tracking 1% above the RPI - I will review this after the first year The remainder I have put into PB until I've decided what to do with it - I worked out I've had a 10% return on my 2k sitting in there in the last year so maybe I'm lady luck :)

I can't help with your request for a sponsor for your A&L account I'm afraid, but for future reference there was no need to set up a temporary e-mail address or to put it in your post (which as you say is almost certain to attract spam). You will have provided TMF with an e-mail address when you registered. Any one can choose to reply to you personally via that e-mail address (without having to actually know it) as well as...

ING drops saving account rate by...

....to 2.72%...not a large amount................not To avoid unnecessary panic, let's be clear that part of this 3.12% reduction is the withdrawal of the 1.75% bonus for new savers. So presumably doesn't affect existing savers who are on a bonus rate at present ? I haven't had an email yet, but was expecting a reduction more in line with the base rate cut.

I am considering moving our small business bank account away from HSBC to reduce charges. We don't have many transactions but do tend to have balances of tens of thousands which roll from current account to a savings account . I see cooperative have two accounts Business Direct Plus and their FSB Current Account both with 18 months free banking. I wondered if (i) anyone had experience ...

Anglo Irish have just improved their 1yr fixed rate account (bond) from 5.55% to 5.75% for applications received from tomorrow onwards. Seems an unusual move, but I am taking them up on their offer before they change their mind! Anglo Irish is covered by a 100,000 Irish Deposit Protection Scheme, and of course the FSCS £50k as a back up. ET http://www.angloirishbank.co.uk/Personal_...

I saw this in a Telegraph article: Manchester BS Premier Guarantee The Premier Guarantee account from Manchester BS currently pays a rate of 5.35%. The account guarantees to pay no less than 5% until 30 June 2009, after which it guarantees to pay no less than 1.5% above bank base rate until 30 June 2010. The only restriction to the account is that if you make more than four ...

Afternoon All I wonder if anyone can let me know of the highest currently available 1 year fixed rate cash ISA that is available? Preferably a straight fix rather than one that relies on bonuses, etc. I've tried one or two of those comparison sites but most of the data seems to be out of date and when you go to the account mentioned it no longer exists! If anyone knows an up to date ...

Hi All, I have been lucky enough to come into 20k recently, problem is with the recent base rate cuts (and yes I am benfitting from that with my HUGE mortgage) where is the best place to put it to earn a decent return. I have already used my ISA allowance for this year. My first thought is premium bonds which I guess averages around the 2-3% returns mark for that amount of holdings, I ...

Can anyone suggest a euro savings a/c offering good interest? I intend to buy 'a place in the sun' next year, and as there's a good chance of the pound sinking lower, it seems a good idea to exchange the dosh now. Thanks -

Hello, I'm looking for the best return for 15k - not interested in the stock market for this. I've come up with an NSandI savings account that tracks 1% above RPI (would I be correct in saying this is the same as Inflation?). I like this because it's tax free - I am a higher rate tax payer so at the current level (5.5%) it's the equivalent of having a savings account paying just ...

They have just reduced the interest rate on their current account to 0.28% AER. I know interest have gone down but this seems a little excessive! Are there any better deals available with good customer service?

I took out a 1 year fixed rate account @ 6.7% in April 2008 with interest payable monthly. Reading the Q&A on the FSCS site, I note that it states that you can keep the account until maturity but it will not pay out any interest until maturity. Does this mean that I would receive interest at the full rate from 7/10/08 to maturity? Thanks for any advice.

Hi folks, this seems to be one the top payers for instant access now, although they haven't said that the rate will be held after the 1.5% base rate cut. Any experiences with customer service? cheers, D.
