2011 Lexus GS Rumors

And how will they differentiate between ES and GS? But maybe that's the trend we'll be seeing coming... more fuel efficient and affordable models for high end cars. I sort of wondered that too. Wasn't the V6 in the current gen GS300 also based on the...

I even warmed up to Prius exterior design. The only thing I hate about it is the speedo placement. The bottom line is that Prius is very well made and people are willing to pay money for it. Maybe Toyota is not making as much money on Prius, but...

Re-marketing the Insight

longhorn wrote: Honda AFVM, don't you think the problem with the Insight is the mpg sticker on the window? How many of your customers believe that the Insight gets the same mpg as the Prius though the sticker states differently? This must be a huge hurdle, afterall, its not as if sales consultants (of any kind) are always trusted. I wonder if you could zero the MPG and let them try for themselves on a demo drive?

2010 Car/Truck fo the Yr Finalists

The new Golf. I'm sure the GTI and such get rave reviews, and the base car is pretty good, but perhaps Daniel, after having been all over the map, has seen his fair share of "good" cars in Europe. I mean, what do North Americans have for a hatch? The Matrix? The only good one is the Mazda3... with such a low number of competitors I'm not surprised to see the Golf being considered.

I do think Honda missed a great opportunity to keep the Sxxx relevant. All it needed was some new options. I know this is heresy, but an automatic/manumatic would have done lots to increase sales. Yes, and engine like the 3.7.

Not surprising. I would bet that a large proportion of Acura buyers are original Honda people that have "moved up" for more features and luxury/sport. I'm surprised at Mercedes and BMW. BMW makes much better cars (reliability-wise) than Mercedes. I guess a lot of Mercedes buyers buy into the delusion that there is nothing better.

Interesting. Driving style will affect the hybrids quite a bit. Perhaps the sportier suspension in the Insight caused them to drive a little more spiritedly.
On fueleconomy.gov, the Insight is holding its own against the Prius. Though the Insight doesn't have enough reports to draw a strong conclusion yet.
Insight averages 49.7mpg over 19 owners ('09 and '10 models).

This is sad. It was difficult to watch GM destroy Saab, but this is even worse. I owned a 1980 Saab 99 2.0 GLi Coupe and loved it.

I'm sure that's precisely why Honda's changed and compared other nonentity luxury brands like Tesla, Acura has a long and illustrious history!

What I love about the myopic twerps that pass for reporters at the NYT is that they can write with a straight face an article about people in NY, Boston and San Francisco and pretend they are representative of the USA. It does not even occur to them that the majority of people in the USA live in places like Kalamazoo, Peoria, and Omaha (the NY snots call it "fly over country"), and ...

Indeed, nice move by VW. You can clearly see they are pretty serious about becoming N1 , after getting Porsche now they are aiming at the opposite side of the spectrum, clearly positioning themselves with everything they need to challenge anyone around the planet.
Expect VW and Suzuki shares to rise in the days to come, because it's clearly a very good business move for both of them...

The first mistake that Lexus made with the GS was the price jump from $38,000 to $44,000 in one generation. $6,000 jump in one generation? well it proved fatal for the GS. Sales never took off. A way they could have avoided this was to introduce a smaller engine from the start. Not everyone is looking to go 0-60 in 5.4 seconds (GS350), especially with the target market for the GS.
