If I had to guess, it's because the digital format that the music is "ripped" as is not compatible with the 5.1 channel DVD Audio. For instance, it likely uses a MP3 or AAC wrapper, and those are not compatible wrappers for 5.1 channel music. It doesn't "record" them like dubbing a cassette; rather, it converts them into another digital format that can be stored on a hard drive. ...
