The guy has balls taking the 5D2 to Antarctica given the last time someone reported a similar exercise all the 5D2's across the globe died suddenly when one hit the cold.

I prefer the first shot with the three runners out on a cold, frosty day. With the three runners removed, the visual payoff is scant....looking several hundred yards down a dark tree-covered path and the visual payoff is 10 percent of the frame filled with brush and grass? Uh, no....not worth the payoff for me. THe one with the people in it is visibly more compelling. I think what would be interesting would be to post the two images, side by...

If the f/4 is sharp at f/4 you should be OK since that's where a lot of people with the f/2.8 are shooting anyway. But like mentioned, for things like portrait work or weddings you'll appreciate that f/2.8 aperture.

New Canon 70-200 is usm.
Published (2009-12-07 10:00:00)
I think the biggest difference may be the IS system. The technology has improved since the first version of the 70-200mm IS was designed. The current model is already very good, any real improvements would make it a superb lens...but it's also really expensive. $500 more...wow.

The higher megapixel count of the Canon will allow you to crop more for your wildlife shots that you may not be able to get close enough to on foot. The 7D looks to be a better high ISO performer than the Nikon. Not sure about the Nikon, but the 7D has darn good weather sealing characteristics for your outdoor shooting. Are you into video at all? Canon is the DSLR video leader. Not saying ...

A adequate camera + good lens is better than a good camera + lower quality lens.
"Low F" value is not the ultimate indication or measure of quality lens but in general, faster lenses ("Low F") are usually equipped with better optics.

I shoot the d700 and f3. When shooting people I always shoot at 2.8 or 4.
Of course you have to have the very best lenses to shoot at 2.8 or it won't be sharp.
Mainly for depth of field and secondarily for shutter speed.
The f4 should be fine for you unless you are shooting weddings and portraits then you will probably wish you had the 2.8. Also for wildlife the 2.8 if very useful in the...

If you found a good price, I would... It didn't take me long to realize the 80-200 just wasn't going to focus fast enough for me so I returned it and decided to get a 70-200 instead (which I haven't yet).

Does this top out at $200 back? I think that is what it was last year for Live.com. Either way, last year I got 25% on eBay with PayPal offering 10% on top. Smoking deal.
BTW, is this instant this year? Last year it was 6 weeks I think.

The Canon G9 is an outstanding Point n Shoot camera. It will no doubt serve you well. The only negative is the shutter lag. The pictures are spectacular. You can add an external flash if you like.
Take a lot of pictures of your baby!!!

Might sound weird, but lately I've been going without anything and love it... Otherwise I use a hand strap, doesn't get in the way and it's very comfortable to walk around with.

That's rather annoying.
What's your budget for lenses? The 'best' lenses are very expensive.
There are several good Macro lenses available. Look at the Canon EF 100mm Macro & the EF-S 60mm Macro. You could also look at a Macro lens from Sigma or Tamron.
Most people think of a landscape lens as one that has ...
