I had to go with "can't pick/both are good". Jefferey Hunter played the Pike of the time.... intelligent, concerned about his crew, troubled with his command choices, and disdainful of the notion of women in the crew (as per the times when the show was made). He played that role well. Bruce Greenwood played the Pike similar to most military officers I've served with.... father-like, intelligent, sense of humor,...

Has anyone else noticed How Gary Lockwood, who played Gary Mitchell in Where No Man Has Gone Before and Karl Urban who played Dr. Leonard McCoy could have been brothers? I think Urban looks so much like Lockwood, (at least how Lockwood used to look, I don't know about now.) ? Anyone else see the resemblence?

What does this sound like? From Memory Alpha: "In the end,... won out because its straightforward action plot was not considered too exotic, it had the advantage of a monster to thrill the viewers" Maybe NuTrek is much more like TOS than I previously thought?! (I know I have had this discussion before!)

Well, studio executives have believed and still believe that the audience wants monsters, fist fights and some ray gun shooting. Comparing the popularity of "The Cage" and the "The Man Trap" should have changed their minds long ago whereas the success of ST09 fortified their believes.

They both have their merits but Greenwood was surprisingly effective. It
was a shame his role kinda petered out halfway in.

'Where No Man..' (the second pilot) should be regarded as the first episode. Not only was it filmed first, but there are lots of differences (in costumes, technology etc) that indicate it's a slightly earlier timeframe to the series proper.
'The Corbomite Manoever' was the next episode - you can find a listing of eps in production order at http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Star...riginal_Ser ies...

It's definitely the worst of the two Mudd episodes. That's about all I can
say for it.

I love it. I think Lee Meriwether manages to convey the pain her "original" would have felt at having to do harm beautifully. I like the simplicity of the attack (touch and kill). I like the confined environment...it's all good. This is really a wonderful episode. I gave it a 4 because I think the top rating should be reserved for the episodes that are truly amazing (City on the Edge of ...
