Another spin on UPS and FDX
Published (2009-12-13 14:42:00)
On a lethargic day in terms of market action last Monday, the day’s biggest news arrived in the after-hours session when FedEx boosted its profit guidance for the current quarter to $1.10 a share from 65-95 cents a share. I have eliminated old from my vocabulary and replaced it with MATURE. It sounds better and may help eliminate "old stereo types". Instead of CRS mature people can claim they have accumulated more data and therefore have a more difficult time retrieving from a vast array of data versus less mature folk who have not accumulated near the data that mature folks have. They can retrieve much quicker because they have so much less...

Another major factor regarding UPS debt, perhaps the major one was the UPS stock buyback. Most of the shares purchased were mid $60.00's to mid 70's per share. 100 million shares equals approx seven billion dollars.

FedEx hired 35,000 seasonal workers to help with the holiday shipping rush. UPS hired 50,000. Putting that stat from the Brandon Clay article ( FDX vs UPS: Comparing the Shipping Giants ) in context per the last 10-K's filed: -As of December 31, 2008, UPS had approximately 426,000 employees. As of May 31, 2009, FedEx had approximately 248,000 employees. So UPS is increasing ...

If I was a savvy FEDEX investor I would definitely sell into this news (hype). The stock has moved from $34 to the 80s in 7 months...more than enough when it stands on a framework of BS. But since I am neither savvy, nor a FEDEX investor, I can't do it.... Go UPS! P71

"Where is UPS??" It's $30 a share less then FDX. Fred Smith and FDX knows how to work it's name and influence whether it's "on the hill" in Washington or the public media, or the news media, or on Wall Street. They are always out front in selling their company. Now,some in UPS might not thing that's the way a company should project it's image or sell itself. After 10 years of being a ...
