Not local-ish but if you ever feel like sharing, via your friendly US postal system, you have my address. I think. And if you don't, i'll send it to you.

On ever better news H, assuming he doesn't fall into a jet-lagged coma on the train from London, will be joining me later today. Which is good on many many levels. Just perhaps not the one where I'll have to explain the gawping big scratch over the wheel arch. Hmmm. Perhaps the jet lag will help.

Easy crockpot (easier?)

Now that the weather is turning cold we're digging out the crock pot again. Always on the lookout for new recipes, so we'll give that one a try, too. Thanks!

Okay, my TWLM may have to get a little priority. But again, this is only if I ever have spares! Has anyone ever had spare cheese? Seriously? Cheese just doesn't go to waste in my world. In fact, it always seems to be in short supply. Since I will be up near The Family this weekend, I am going to have to beg mom to go out there and try to get some cheese. Fingers crosses.

I don't know if any of you use a crockpot but yesterday Winkie tried something that ended up being fantastic and easier than anything we've ever done. Betty Crocker makes au gratin and scalloped potatoes that come in a box and are normally baked in the oven. Normally we use fresh potatoes for everything but every now and then we'll make a couple boxes of these for a pot luck or something. They're not expensive and...

Not sure about that. Lurpak is 82% and Kerrygold is 80%. Right. I forgot about the culturing (which Kerrygold does)... An interesting story about butter-tasting: http://www.doriegreenspan.com/print/2007/04/better-butter-a-... and related: http://www.nytimes.com/2001/01/17/dining/butter-with-a-pedig...

I would like emailed to me not only the name of the local-ish cheese company, but also the names of any single gentlemen of marriageable age who are also local-ish so that I might get in on the "family only" butter gig.

Well, I assume WA is similar to OR, in that where the terrain changes from green to brown, the politics change from blue to red. But still... It's a little more complex than that. The entire west half (well, actually a little over a third) of the state is pretty green, but the bill lost in 9 of 19 western counties. It could be worse. It is really stupid, in my opinion, for Jefferson County to be one county: the central half of it is a...

Oh, yum. One of my former co-workers will soon be opening an entire restaurant in SF dedicated to grilled cheese sandwiches. I think suicide defies logic. People are in terrible pain and they think suicide is the only way out. The pain is so great they don't think about family members.

God what a rambling bunch of selp-pity! I've got a great life. What the heck am I complaining about? Yet I'm still going to hit the submit button. GACK! I sure hope this weekend is a good one. You're probably asking yourself why are you so blessed while so many people around you are having problems in their lives. You may feel a little guilty that your life is wonderful right now. ...

This year, Washington State voters have on the ballot one Referendum 71, aka the "Everything But Marriage" law: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referendum_71 So, putting aside my opinions on the issue, i've been wondering about tax-exempt non-profits and their roles in politics. I haven't heard any updates on the allegations against the LDS Church regarding last year's Prop 8 vote in ...

The baby doesn't go to a hospital nursery, but stays with the mother 24/7. The father stays in the hospital overnight, so he experiences the baby too. In the Seattle area, this is pretty standard for a healthy baby. I don't think any of the hospitals here have nurseries (other than the NICU), though you can request a break from the baby and the nurses will take him/her but "rooming ...
