digital photography taking over!

Paintings also offer a level of abstraction that often adds to the aesthetic. Certainly it has its uses in that respect. And I don't begrudge anyone that likes it. Different strokes, and all that. I'm just a philistine, I guess. I never liked paintings that didn't look like photos (I always respected the artist that could do that)**. But then we come to "just take the photo". Of course I did like how paintings...

I never liked Monet, or Impressionism in general. In mentioning abstraction, I was thinking more of the quality that definitely says "painting" to the eye, even though it's very much a sharp, representational image. Again, I'm thinking of the many, many cover paintings in my book collection, and how most of them would look terrible if they were photographs. Of course, part of that is money and effort. Most...

I've never been much for paintings. What's the point when you can take a photograph instead? I appreciate Thomas Kinkade's work. Troy

cable release

I went through a 2 bad, cheap generic triggers, 1 corded that stopped working and 1 wireless that was way too inconsistent for my 20d because Canon's compatible remotes at the time were ridiculously priced. I did more research on try #3 and found the Phottix line of wireless triggers. At $50+, not as cheap, but it is a rockin' remote. Maybe I just got lucky, but there were/are a lot of glowing reviews out there about this one....

The PCs for November are: 1. Water - Water drop, color, splashes, landscapes I took these three snaps in Costa Rica in Oct/Nov with my new Coolpix L20, a fine little pocket camera. No photoshopping or cropping. http://picasaweb.google.com/fleg9bo/DropBox# --fleg

Here a few that come to mind for a beginner... 1. Have a subject. 2. Keep sun behind you. 3. Generally speaking, early morning and late afternoon are a better time to photograph. 5. Go out with a fresh set of batteries. 6. When taking pictures of family vacations, always try to have something with a heartbeat in it. Family, animals etc. I have seen a lot of vacation photo's. ...

I own both the wired and the wireless cable releases from Nikon. If you are looking at purchasing a clone on Amazon, I would read all the reviews related to it. If it does not have any or just a few. I would not purchase the item. The wired from Nikon is about 30 bucks. I don't remember what I paid for the wireless. The wireless release is great for just that. The wired release ...

I'm sure someone can do a better job of this, but off the top of my head: Use the Magic Wand tool to select the background. This tool selects all pixels of the same color. You may need to adjust the color tolerance a bit to get everything. Use Selection | Feather so the selection isn't quite so hard-edged. Again, you may want to fiddle with the number of pixels. Select | Invert. ...
