Braves Salt Bullpen With Saito
Published (2009-12-03 15:58:00)
The Atlanta Braves continued to strengthen their bullpen today by announcing that they have agreed to terms with right-handed free-agent pitcher Takashi Saito on a one-year contract for the 2010 season. Saito, who turns 40 in February, has played four Major League seasons after a successful career in Japan. He will become the second Japanese-born player in franchise history after pitcher Kenshin Kawakami, who joined Atlanta in 2009....

More fuel to the fire for Jeter...

I am amazed at how the language gets twisted. If you say that Jeter is a player past his prime and is not CURRENTLY worthy of all of the praise he's getting, you're a "hater."

It's 8 hours since the signing and he isn't on the DL yet, so that's a good start.

Why don't you twist some language for us explain to everyone how a guy that may very well have had his best season defensively, hit .334 with 212 hits, 107 runs scored and 30 stolen bases in his most recent...

Chronically Uncompetitive Teams

Seems like John Henry of the Red Sox does not agree with the Yankee bashers who talk about "buying" a championship. Five of these teams (out of seven) had the highest operating profits in the game. Robert

He may have had a very good season but the fact remains that he has been one of the most over-rated and over-hyped sportsmen of the recent past. Not even the best SS in his own team never mind the whole of the AL. I'm happy to be counted amongst those who think he's not even close to being as good as much of the media portray him. If that makes me jealous or a hater in the eyes of his apologists then so be it.

Chronically Uncompetitive Teams
Published (2009-12-03 10:16:00)
Baseball economics need more changes than just reining in the spending of the Yankees and the Red Sox. It also needs to make sure that the small-market teams receiving revenue sharing money from MLB and all the other teams get spent on putting a better product on the field. I once recall a small-market baseball exec (I think it was from the Royals, but I could be wrong) saying that they could either spend $20 million and miss the playoffs or...

I once recall a small-market baseball exec (I think it was from the Royals, but I could be wrong) saying that they could either spend $20 million and miss the playoffs or spend $40 million and miss the playoffs because of economic imbalance, so you might as well go cheap and make money. It was the Royals. That was the first year they had the luxury tax in place. The Yankees were the only team to have to pay it that year, and the Royals were...

Since Wainwright got the most first place votes, I don't think there's any kind of "backlash." Perhaps more voters today are aware that Wins are more of a team stat than an individual stat and are more open to voting for the guy who actually pitched the best rather than the guy whose offense scored more runs while he stood on the mound. -chris
