In about 12 months a new version of Office will be out and it will have Outlook. Based on my Experience using Outlook with Windows (Vista and XP), email works well on the combination of Outlook and iPhones (Both Classic 1.x and 3Gs models) Gordon Atlanta

In about 12 months a new version of Office will be out and it will have Outlook. Technically correct, but misleading. When Microsoft releases the next version of Office for Mac, the updated version of Entourage will be renamed Outlook. Entourage is useful to two groups of people: 1. Mac users who need to access an Exchange server, but don't have Snow Leopard, and 2. Snow Leopard users who need to access an Exchange server running a...

Interesting stuff. I run Google Chrome on occasion. I like it except for there being -last I checked- no way to block ads. If they add that functionality I may very well switch. I'll have to see if 1poorlady is using it on her macbook. I know she uses Safari some. 1poorguy

awl, Do you use MM with iCal - i.e., are both those calendars sych'd? and with your iPod Touch or whatever your mobile device is? My iCal keeps showing Entourage with a checkmark after I synch my iPod with iCal even though I've selected MM as my synching option! Confused again,

Sorry, I can't help with Entourage. :-( I do use MM with iCal, and I sync my calendars on my iPhone 3GS, a PMG5 (Leopard), a PBG4 (Leopard), and a MBP (Snow Leopard). Syncing seems to work reasonably well ~99% of the time and in all directions (to and from the web interface, to and from my iPhone, and to and from my Mac copies of iCal). On rare but noticeable occasion, I'll have a machine -- most often the PBG4 -- stop syncing with...

What exactly is the error message? And are you trying to go from Tiger to Snow Leopard (10.6) or Leopard (10.5). The cheap Snow Leopard upgrade price was for upgrading from 10.5 only. joe

No errors listed for disk by Verify Disk - which I believe is the SMART status report you referred to. The SMART status is at the bottom of the Disk Utility window. Since last night I have called AppleCare and they directed me to reset my PRAM and NVRAM. Also they directed me to reset the System Management Controller. Since I now have a Case ID, a record of trouble is being recorded. Excellent. Call them again when a problem crops up again.

It's a 90 day old machine, that's already failed to boot once because of a bad disk. Get the drive replaced. Now. Start up Disk Utility, select the internal drive, and see what the "S.M.A.R.T. Status" is. Any errors listed? I don't see any advantage to confusing the machine by switching between two different TM backups. If you really want redundant backups, then use something like Carbon...

Last, is there anything in the pipeline that in six months is going to make me say "Crap, I should have waited"? Of course there is. The Mac Buyer's Guide tracks the release dates of all Macs, and they show the average time between updates is 194 days for the MacBook, and 200 days for the MacBook Pro. Which works out to about 6-1/2 months. You can get a small, light-weight Mac ...

First, let me ask, why does the folder need to be zipped? To keep it password protected? To keep it compressed? If you could tell us why you want to do that, we may be able to recommend a better solution.

I think it's a very smart thing to consider refurbished anything from Apple. They come under the same warranty as all their other products, have passed a rigorous exam, with replacement parts usually better than the ones they replaced, and you can get the extended warranty (advisable). It has been the only way I've purchased my last four computers for home and work. All have behaved ...
