I had heard the same thing when the original iPhone was introduced, but I was quite vehemently told here on the board that was NOT the case. I don't recall anyone saying that, unless they specifically mentioned the caveat of Apple making a hardware change. For the iPhone to run on any major US carrier besides AT&T and T-Mobile would require a different version of the component that handles the cellular signal. That may not be a...

Verizon was offered the iPhone first, before GSM vs. CDMA on the iPhone was settled . (emphasis mine) In other words, while the iPhone was still in development, Apple offered it to both Verizon and AT&T. Once they chose AT&T, they had to build the iPhone to the GSM standard. Worldwide, about 85% of cellular networks use GSM. Aside from Verizon & Sprint Nextel, virtually nobody uses CDMA. Apple could build a CDMA...

Has the Pre plateaued? http://seekingalpha.com/article/146859-palm-pre-sales-taperi... “We have concluded our 3rd round of channel checks for the Pre,” writes JP Morgan analyst Paul Coster, who notes that demand for the handset is hovering at about 40,000 per week. “The gap between supply and demand has closed at Sprint and BestBuy stores, waitlists are eliminated or down, and most stores now have Pre devices in stock.” When will this...

It sounds like you need something more like Adobe Illustrator rather than Photoshop. There's a 30 day trial: http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator/ Open source alternative is Inkscape: http://www.inkscape.org/ Also, if you have Flash (the program not the player), it is great for doing vector graphics, which are what you want for scaling capability. It takes some getting used to using it that way, but if you already have it, you can...

I'm beginning to think that the bottom line is this: the tools you need are very expensive, and the expertise is non-trivial. Nailed it. But thanks to all who offered advice.

Excuse me for using this forum for a somewhat off-topic question, but in 1955 I was a student/lab assistant of James J. Ryan at the University of Minnesota when he was inventing the "black box" that has become standard on all aircraft. There were many problems, particularly to develop a recording mechanism that would survive a violent impact. Our solution at the time was to record on a...

SAN FRANCISCO — Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s co-founder and chief executive, officially returned to work on Monday after a five-month medical leave. But for some investors the issues raised by Apple’s secrecy about Mr. Jobs’s health problems and liver transplant are likely to linger. “Steve is back to work,” Steve Dowling, an Apple spokesman, said on Monday. “He is currently at Apple a few ...
