"Well, there's a difference between providing support and providing "legacy modes"." Perhaps (though I don't know the legacy support modality goes without XP related continued patches) and it doesn't change that XP's support will go to 2014 per MS's offer to do so in spite of an early Win7 and it's apparent viability. So again they're apparently not so keen on abandoning...

Several people I know say that iPhone will be sold at Verizon next year. Is AT&T losing the exclusivity deal? I'm pretty sure this will be huge for the iPhone, if true.

I'd be surprised, considering the Droid is just out and supposedly does more than the iPhone. Why pump all that in to compete with the iPhone, then to "join in" with the iPhone soon? Duck

That may be but wrt your earlier MS/WinXP comment they can't want to drop XP too bad or they wouldn't have added Win7 features that exploit it's legacy value. Well, there's a difference between providing support and providing "legacy modes". Even XP had compatibility modes for old (and, I believe, unsupported) versions of Windows (and possibly even DOS). Of course, none of those were considered...

0x6a74 says not sure the 5-yr term is in the top-five reasons it (Verizon iP:hone) wont' happen. [ exclusivity, 'CDMA'(?), 'vCast' being the big ones ] -b ..... or am i just really confused? No, I think you've got it about right.

ZOMG! Real iPod inventor sues Apple

You just can't make up stuff like this. The real world will always top it. Franz A. Wakefield says he invented the iPod, iTunes, and iPhone in 1983, and Sarah Jessica Parker (assisted by Robert Downey Jr.) stole his ideas and passed them to Steve Jobs. He wants damages and 2% of gross revenues. http://www.geek.com/articles/apple/crazy-lawsuit-claims-that...

It could very well be a planted misinformation campaign to kill off the early momentum of competitors.

Only users that have "jailbroken" their phones--altered them to run applications not authorized by Apple--are vulnerable, and among those, only those who failed to change their default password for a secure shell (SSH) application that allows file transfers between smart phones. It is kind of comical that the first attack is a Rickroll, and that it only hits jailbroken phones. One ...

Assuming this guy's story is true (hey, you never know!) what little I know about trade secrets says that only Miss Parker would be at fault here, and only if the whacko had informed her that the idea was to be kept secret. Once the idea had been leaked it was free for anyone to use. That's one of the drawbacks of a trade secret. So, Apple has nothing to fear from this lawsuit :-)...

there’s a lot a company like Apple could do with an additional $1.9 billion in capital expenditures (emphasis mine) Actually, it's an additional $800 million, since they spent $1.1 billion it spent in FY 2009. And I can easily imagine that the North Carolina data center will eat up the bulk of that.

The key fact from that article: So far, no actual exploits of the SSL flaw have been found in the wild... They found the flaw in August; I'm surprise they haven't already coded a fix for it. Of course this means probably every server and browser on the world will have to be updated.
