No, this is all your fault. You're probably right. . I should have made a strong effort to hunt down Cutler weeks ago and kicked his sorry ass around the block. When I finished that task, I should've put on full Dom leather gear and taken Turner to a dungeon for discipline he'd NEVER forget. For added measure, I'd ensure his safeword was "I resign, effective immediately." And I'd make sure he used...

if an A+ can mean exceeds expectations an F- can mean giving new definition to 'worst' I think one could read "F-" to be understood as "that performance which is actually worse than no attempt at all." Everything is relative.

"While your details about high octane are right, I think your overall claim gets a D- on the meaning of metaphor. " No dice. He gets an A+ on comprehension. Without a turbo, supercharger or high compression the octane rating is UNUSED. AV gas in a econo box is a waste. Of energy and dollars. In a turbo or supercharged engine it means POWER. You get an F- on comprehension. jC

I think one could read "F-" to be understood as "that performance which is actually worse than no attempt at all." Everything is relative. I agree with you. We had a TKD student who whined all the time, liked to beat up on the lower ranked/younger kids, and in general was a juvenile delinquent in training. When his blue belt test came up he started cheating during the sparring portion. Then when called on...

Ditto for "quantum leap". That phrase doesn't mean a big leap. It's actually a very small leap made by an electron. So bragging about a quantum leap in technology doesn't mean what you think it means. Ditto is right. Just as High Octane is a totally reasonable metaphor relating to things like race cars and jets (both of which use high octane fuel), Quantum Leap is also a totally reasonable metaphor...

whafa, knows all about Fs Um.. That was more rhetorical, as in "if an A+ can mean exceeds expectations an F- can mean giving new definition to 'worst' ". I wasn't aware that TMF posts got graded according to North American academic standards, but I don't keep track of all the changes they make here. I hope this doesn't go on my permanent record!

Just in case you have this problem and can't see to get that tiny little screw in, I have a handy little trick that works as a temporary measure. Strip the cardboard off of a wire-tie (used for trash bags mostly) and use the wire inside. Thread it through the hole where the screw normally goes (it's easier to do than trying to get that screw in correctly) then simply twist the wire until the lens is tightly snugged into the frame....

The violent half wit in me wanted to choke you out right there. However, I'm pretty sure there is some regulation or other in Cub Scouting that prohibits killing the parents of one of your scouts, so instead you got a forced smile and a quiet suggestion that - for obvious reasons - I see it differently. I haven't found that in my manual. Name and adress please Qazulight

Just remind that parent that only common courtesy and not wanting to get blood on the cub scouts' uniforms are keeping you from killing him with your thumb.

I'm with you on last nights game (relative term). Too many injuries, too few offensive line players with what it takes, & Cutler just seems to make awful decisions. 5 picks, stunningly poor football. Lovey will not likely get the boot, but you might see some interesting off season moves & tradings in order to get higher draft picks. Urlacher may opt out after the season ends. Olin K....

Octane isn't actually an additive that provides more power. I gotta agree that it's annoying when people think "high octane" = "high power". I think the confusion comes from the fact that some high performance engines need higher octane fuel to slow down the explosion or the timing gets messed up (resulting in knocking). I wonder how many people use gas with higher octane levels than...
