Foote Auto control?
Published (2009-12-12 18:13:00)
Here is the latest I heard from Consumers in late November regarding the auto controls at Foote. The Foote automation project is progressing although a bit behind our original schedule. Shipment of the equipment is scheduled this week with installation scheduled in early December. Testing and tuning should be complete before Christmas at which time the controls will be put into daily service.

I ran across this film (video) put out by the DNR in the early 70's. Kind of neat to watch. It is about 30 min long. Watch the guys fishing the railroad bridge when the train comes LOL. They leave the fish in the middle of the tracks,, and then run back to fishing when the train goes past Recognize anyone? LOL www.vimeo.com/3779185

You can't seriously tell me you're comfortable with 3 gangs of trebles going through the Gorilla Hole. I'm not a fool. I know what gear restriction means to a fly-fishing guide, even if you try to discount it Feisty today, ain't ya? Good thing I didn't compare trout to sheepshead or catfish...LOL

Foote Auto control?

Anybody know if they ever installed that automatic system below Foote this fall? Just wondering because the river dropped 1-1/2 feet in a bit over 2 days. It went from just under 1700cfs to 926cfs in that time, seems like a pretty drastic drop, even with the cold.

Even hip boots will work if you watch your step.

Quote: The fly only stretches are plenty fished already, lift that restriction and watch even more people fish it... im guessing that kind of angling pressure wouldnt help the fish population.. Its a sport that is unlike bait fishing, we dont ask for much but a place where we can go out see nature, catch a few fish (even if they are "dinks") on a some hairs/feathers on a hook.. To you baiters whom think we are a snobby...

My father. He bought a tiny cabin on a small inland lake, and when I found out that you could catch fish (I was only 5, and had only heard of fish prior to that), I set out to catch some. He wouldn't give me a hook until I caught one without a hook. It took me a couple days, but I finally landed a Sunfish using a snap swivel for a hook. So, he had to give me a hook and it was Game On ...

Those that do not like the new fishing reg proposal from out DNR should go tell the NRC commissioners and the DNR director how they feel. They let anyone talk that wants to talk. Last year the DNR Director rejected the lame ass proposal that the fisheries dept head Dr. Kelley Smith proposal for the Mio water. Same thing can happen this year with this issue.

You certainly can do it, but eggs will put more fish on your line. If you know where holes are, just float a spawnbag through them, and set your line so the bait will be within a foot of the bottom. That is pretty easy to do in the Rifle.

Nice, how was the brownie run up your way this fall? My buddy has been doing decent on my old brown trib. Good to see some nice steelhead again from there. I caught my first steelhead out of that river, so it holds a special place with me.

People who wear them as often as you do tend to report similar results. I extend the life of mine by not wearing them if I don't have to--wet wading when conditions permit. If poison ivy/briars are a concern, I may wet wade in jeans. I have a pair of rubber "beater' waders I use when I'll push through really thick brush, but they leak so much at this point I might was well be wading in jeans...
