What he was getting at was: Anyone can hunt during the muzzy season with a crossbow, all 3 zones. If you only possessed a "Firearm license" would be hunting under the muzzy rules. Thus must wear hunters orange. Bow season/rules-Orange not needed as you said...

As I said (maybe not so clearly ) 1. There is a late bow season Dec. 1 till Jan. 1 2. You are hunting with a Bow or Crossbow 3. you are hunting in zone 3 or have a disability ( which would let you hunt in zones 2&3) 4. you have a licence that autorizes you to hunt with a bow or crossbow You don't need to wear hunter orange I called 2 DNR service stations to verify this. Call for yourself if you need to verify this any further

I don't shoot a Xbow, but I would think it is an individual thing. In terms of vertical bows, my max shot and my friends max shot are two different distances. All that said, I have shot a Xbow (my uncle's) and I think that with practice and right conditions I would take a 40 yard shot.

How quiet is your crossbow?
Published (2009-12-08 17:15:00)
Why would the noise of a crossbow bother you? None will ever be as quiet as a longbow or recurve....and folks who shoot those also worry about how to quiet their bows! Yes, I shot recurve for many, many years and now shoot a crossbow. As for the noise of a crossbow, it only bothers the hunter and not the deer.

Late season hunting is not for me and I'm out of tags anyway. I'll be out cutting firewood instead of hunting. For sure I'll stay warmer. lol Good luck on your late season hunt and I hope you bring home some venison.

This is my first year shooting/hunting with an xbow, so I'm no expert. My opinion is that the effective range is going to be limited by the sound of the bow more so than energy of the arrow. By that I mean, the xbows are so loud, the deer will be prone to jump the string. I shot my first xbow deer last weekend at about 25 yards. The deer did not duck at all, however it was totally ...

You won't want to shoot at the same spot twice at 20-30 yds w/ peep and pin on any Excal. Pics of them posted on other thread.

Yeah I am sure I could get full credit back but if it works decent I will porbably hunt with it. I am eager to get out when the weather breaks and sight it in. I was just wondering if anyone else owned one and what they thought of it? It was a great price and hopefully I get it to shot straight.

The weight is almost non-existant with a scope. The iron sights are not availble to my knowledge from any of the big mfgs. If you ever looked out of a pair of good binoculars you will see some things that the naked eye cannot, like the small branch that will deflect your shot. It also gives you a few minutes more of shooting time. And yes you are still using a short distance bow.
