Somewhere along the line in either Tiger or Leopard, Apple fiddled with screen capture of a window (by hitting cmd-shift-4 and then the spacebar) so now when the image is captured, it's given a fancy white border and drop shadow: That's very pretty. But I want the original 'just the window' screen capture. Does anyone know if there's a terminal preference change...

For some reason, I find the free iPhone app Graffitio to be a very compelling concept. You post "invisible messages" in the real world--tied to your location (via GPS) like invisible graffiti. It's all very simple and self-explanatory. At launch, you see the nearest "walls" (places people have posted), with the time of the last message. Nothing posted near you? Hit...

I've never actually owned a mobile phone before, so this will be a stupider question than most. If I leave my phone charger plugged into my car's cigarette lighter 24/7, will it be drawing power from the car battery all that time, even when the car is off and the phone is not connected to it? If I'm supposed to pull it out of the lighter when I leave the car, I ...

I am now in a house which is protected from civilization by a hill of granite on one side and the ocean on the other three sides. Great for my nerves but I need a cell phone signal which seems to just make it over the granite and grazes the third floor attic. But the attic is hot and I would rather be on the front porch in my rocker. Internet searches show many ...

All my new neighbors are the nicest bunch coming over with brownies and fishing tips. They will let me use their open wireless connections for the next few weeks while I decide what option to use to get permanent wireless. My preference is to use the public library and coffee shop thus forcing me to not couch surf but the wife wants to actually submit manuscripts ...

Suddenly, my Mail is demanding my ISP password and then telling me it's no good. It's the same password that I can happily log into my webmail with, so something's gone awry here. I read something recently about this happening, but I can't find the link to the issue. Anyone know anything? - padmavyuha A lopsided man runs best along the little side-hills of ...

Both Safari and Firefox acting the same way. If I type something [i.e. yellowpages] in url box, browser says I'm infected or something and they want to scan my 'PC'. I say NO and it does it any way. I say 'quit' and it downloads an .exe package. I finally quit the browsers! Where can I find the enabling 'thing' on my Mac to get rid of this pest? Anyone else ...

Rumor has that the ATI HD 4870 is coming to the Mac Pro "shortly." The 4870 is a very powerful card. It will definitely be the best consumer card for running pro applications on the Mac Pro. It will also be faster for gaming than nVidia's 8800GT. The price is expected to be around $299.00. IMO, that is the best performance for the price gpu on the market. (...

Okay, so Firefox wanted me to update to 3.0.1 and I usually wait a while to wait out the bugs but I didn't this time... anyway, it looks snazzy, but I can't stand the way it keeps previous tabs open when I open a set of new ones. I looked at preferences, but I see no way to kill this "helpful function". Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. We are STILL what we ...
