Just to add one more confusing fact to this "Commanche Specials Don't Slingshot" thread, I micrometered my full size Wilson Combat CQB's slide travel and its slide travel aft of the slide lock detent is identical to that of my Les Baer Commanche Special. Both "slingshot" without problem.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for - I was curious to know if the Bobtail and/or coating helped/hurt the value... Seems like it changes nothing?

They both have the Baer Coating. The Supertac was new, old stock and has the older gen coating. The SRP has the newer Baer Coating. The newer Baer Coating has held up much better. I strongly recommend the Baer coating it makes the pistol cycle so much smoother. I used to be a Blued 1911 man but the Baer coating on my SRP has me converted. The Baer coating resists scratches, dings and rust so much better than blue I'm sold on it....

OK, so basically you are looking at a used Baer TRS with coating and bobtail. I would not offer any more than I would a TRS with nothing done to it. So.....depending on the condition of the gun 1000.00 to 1600.00?

Call John at Proload regardless of whatever deal you may find. He's a great guy to talk to (and had the lowest price for me!).

I recently got a PII from Proload. I understand that LB will install a f.o. front sight, but I called and asked them if they would install a gold bead front --the answer was NO.
I had a gold bead installed locally on the factory standard black post and it sure made it easier to use. Left the adjustable rear sight alone. I have the gold bead set up on several 1911s, and its easily my ...

Is the base gun a Baer or some other make? From looking at the Robar web site, they charge 1200 to 1700 for their " Thunder Ranch" treatment on a supplied gun. I would say this would increase the resale value of the gun some, but a seller should never expect to recuperate all expenses in upgrading any item he is selling.

I like the way you think. I'll await the Baer expert's/addict's opinions.

The difference between a "Government" and a "Commander" frame is that the slide rails and the area where the guide rod flange rests are cut back by about .1". That's 2.54mm. If you believe that's the reason for the problem you have, there is a way to prove it. Take a standard guide rod and machine its flange back, so that it is about half its initial thickness. That should give you about 1mm of...
