Exotic Trim Queston

I ordered two holsters today, a VM2 and an Axiom. I ordered them both without exotic trim because I read somewhere that exotic trim, i.e. shark, elephant; etc can’t be used alone but instead needs to be stitched onto cow or horse hide therefore increasing bulk. I like my carry rigs to keep a very a very low profile so I omitted the niceties. Was I wrong in my thinking; is a nicely trimmed holster a bit more bulky than the plain Janes I...

Personally I have never seen the need for exotic trim on a holster. Horsehide is good where the holster is used inside the waist band as it is basically water proof. Cowhide is sufficient on a holster that is worn on a belt. In so far as adding thickness to the holster, someone who has a exotic trim holster would be best answering that question. Best of Luck! Well, technically speaking you're correct in that the exotic trim holster is one layer thicker, but unless you're a "Princess and the Pea" type it's not really noticeable, practically speaking. Especially with a couple of heavy duty workhorses like the VM2 and Axiom, which are already stout and thick anyway. If you were getting a paper thin rig like a Brommeland IWB, then I suppose you could say the extra...

Hello all, My name is Andy, and I'm currently deployed to Iraq with the Army National Guard. I've had a few idea's in regard to holster designs while I've been here, and I'm thinking very hard about trying to turn them into a viable business when I return home. I'm madly brainstorming, designing and making prototypes during the few free hours I have here, and I've gotten permission from the forum owner to...

Personally, I'd never order exotic trim on an IWB holster. Nobody is going to see it anyway, as it is inside the waistband, with a cover garment. On the other hand, if wearing an OWB holster, while open carrying, then sure, exotic all the way.

Mernickle PS6 Opinions?
Published (2009-12-04 19:18:00)
Anybody have any comments pro or con about the Mernickle PS6 high ride holster? I remember Celticrey and Marine24 both posted pictures of their new PS6's in late spring of this year. Now that you guys have owned them for six months or so what are your thoughts? Jim

You might try bouncing your ideas off John at: www.5shotleather.com and see If he can shed some light in the 'dark corners'. He may be a little busy catching up after his move but should offer some pointers.

Miami Classic II ?

Can anyone that has this rig advise if you can carry Condition 1? I know some Galco holsters with thumb break straps won't let you carry C & L. I'm thinking the Shoulder rig will? Thanks in advance.

From everything I've read, Galco's current line of shoulder holsters do not allow for a Condition One carry. If configured for hammer-down carry, the thumb-snap strap will be too large/long for cocked and locked carry.

Welcome to the forum. I don't know anything about Caldwell Gunleather. The basic style looks similar to a Milt Sparks Summer Special II and designs from several other manufacturers. Don Hume makes the PCCH, which is very similar, for about the same price as the Caldwell holster. The cost difference between that Caldwell (or Hume) and a brand new custom holster from the top makers is...

Cross breed makes one for the EMP. The Supertuck deluxe. I have one for my Glock 19 and love it, very comfortable and it really conceals nicely. www.crossbreedholsters.com When selecting the type of gun, it will list general 1911 style. Keep scrolling down to Springfield and you will see the EMP

Whether a holster has a body shield or not is irrelevant since you don't snick off your safety until the the weapon muzzle has cleared leather and is pointed down range and just before you bring the weapon up to eye level to make the shot. Disengaging the safety beforehand doesn't gain you speed and increases the risk of shooting yourself, or possibly someone that doesn't necessarily need to be ...

Look at a Tucker Silent Thunder IWB. It's adjustable to any angle and could easily be adapted for crossdraw. (I'm assuming you want IWB.) It's leather lined kydex; the best of both worlds.
