here are some sources http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/Item....aspx?catid=645 check this site for some price comparison shopping http://www.ammoengine.com/find/ammo/.38_Super 38super ammo isn't commonly found on the shelf. Most of the guys that shoot it regularly reload as far as a "good price" , right now $15 to $20 pr 50rnd box is the going rate for factory new ..L.T.A.

I did end up seating them so that they are just shy of flush of the hood extension, and re checked crimp. looks good. i kind of messed up with not belling quite enough, I normaly bell a little more for cast bullets. I did have a little shaving of lead i cleaned up in the seating operation. (previously belled for ball).

Thanks for the replies, fellah's. The cases still have the fired primers, they have not been de-primed.

1911: 9mm or .45?
Published (2009-11-28 18:45:00)
The range where I shoot is indoors and limited in space. We don't have full-fledged, sanction IDPA or IPSIC competitions, but we do have weekly informal combat shoots that are sort of a hybrid of the two. No classes, we don't have enough entrants to justify that. The top three or four shooters are shooting 9mm 1911s, one other top shooter uses a Colt Super 38 for which he loads his own (very light) ammo, and another top shooter uses...

Reload Problem
Published (2009-11-21 16:11:00)
Not sure, never seen this. One thing is for sure, it's the same problem with each case, for the blow out is identical. I've seen 9mm cases stretch a lot before rupturing. Do these guys do the reloading, or do they buy the reloads? Might be overloaded, or even worn out brass. I would guess the latter.

After seating them more to the proper depth, I'd take a careful look at the bullet just ahead of the case mouth, measure the bullet OD there as well as see if the rounds pass the "plunk" test in your Springfield without getting stuck. What you're looking for is bullet metal that got plowed up ahead of the case mouth by the additional seating. If you "crimp" just enough to knock down any remaining...

A friend of mine managed to pick up some large pistol primers for me at a gun show last week. That's good, because my press has been idle for months. I'm still waiting for powder.

welcome. body mass has nothing to do with handling recoil. ive had taken women shooting that weigh less then you do just find with a 44 mag. sometimes its the grips that can make a dif too. before you drop some $$ on a gun, find a good insructor in your area and take a lesson or 2 on shooting. let him/her know what youre looking for and maybe you can spend the time focusing on the ...

Powder Valley (although out of stock on some brands ) has Federal primers listed at $ 25.50/1000, which is the same price I paid for 10K in October 08, and they had plenty then. I bought a lot of powder also, thinking that the election results might cause components to get tight later. I guessed right and fortunately at the rate I shoot, I can wait until supplies build back up. I don't blame ...

As long as the tarnished brass is not cracked, deformed, or otherwise out of spec, I would use it. Tumble it to get the bits of unburned powder and other abrasives out to protect your dies, but I wouldn't worry about the tarnish unless you're concerned with aesthetics. Regarding brass, .45 acp is such a low pressure round that I don't think you need to be concerned with new vs once-fired....

Remington UMC is roughly comparable to Winchester USA and Federal American Eagle. It's an "economy" grade of ammunition, fine for practice but not optimum for serious target work. Sellior & Bellot is in the same overall category, perhaps a half notch better (or not). There are other threads discussing the merits (and demerits) of FMJ for self-defense. I won't attempt to reproduce prior ...

Lasercast LSWC are good bullets. However I don't use Unique, so can't speak to your load other than to say Speer cites 4.9 to 5.4 grs as their recommended range. the 5.4 gr load only makes 790 fps based on how they tested it though. But it varies with the pistol. Good thing you have a chrono, because you never really know until you test it. For OAL, I would seat the bullet so ...
