Hi All, Brought another box of bullets. Nosler Ballistic Tips this time. I asked for 50 grain ones but didn't read the box label just paid and put them in my pocket of course he gave me a box of 55 grain bullets Oh well I am not driving 22 miles to chamge them. Once the weather clears up a bit I will try them out. Right now we have a storm heading through the UK with high winds, up to 80MPH are predicted on the South West and West coast...

I am quite sure you have a \'procedure\' you use for your load testing, BH. However, you might have a look at the Optimal Charge Weight process. (Stickied at the top of this "Factory Ammo and Reloading " section.) It\'s focus is not on the load that produces the smallest group under one set of environmental conditions, but the load that changes point of impact the least with changing environmental conditions....

Quote: I know the 140gn is pretty much standard for the 7/08 but you really should try something lighter. I may bend on that one yet, but don\'t know. As far as goats go, I\'d love to do something lighter, but tight funds due to only just purchasing all my gear, lack of split second access to a firing range to sight in any major load changes, and the fact I only consider goats as target practice for eventual bigger critters kinda...

Sounds like those slugs are very effective. Never heard of a Mossberg 535. What type of gun / rifle is it? If you are battling to get accuracy out of a shotgun using slugs, then why not just use a rifle? Or am I missing something here?

seems this is my year for ammunition testing.last year I tried several different sabot slugs in my mossberg 535 and found the most consistent performance was with winchester 23/4" platinum tips. the remington and federal sabots seemed to go everywhere! to quote Gitano"different guns shoot different ammunition, differently".so true! well saturday I shot my first deer from that gun an was very pleased with the results....

I thought craterin\' was a good sign In all seriousness, a couple thousandths is not much IMO either. Just the brass getting settled in. If the bolt opened easily and the brass came out like it went in you\'re OK. If there are no bolt marks on the case head, like what would occur if the case head had swelled and the bolt was hard to open? If my camera would take really good close up pictures I could show you some signs of pressure....

Went to my annual military and antique arms show on saturday, picked up a few odds and sods etc, and then something caught my eye and it was love at first sight!.
It was a little martini, with a fantastic old custom stock, scope mounted on a heavy barrel chambered in 25-20, all i know about this cartridge is that it was possibly the original "Varmint round", research on the net has left ...

Hi All, Thought I would break up the post as this will picture heavy. These are Sunday\'s testing of the IMR 4198 18.0 Grain loading with the 55 grain Hornady V-Max bullet. The targets white centre spot measures 0.977" and the grid is 1" from outside edge of the black line to the outside edge of the next black line. The only thing I have changed is the seating depth. I loaded 5 ...

Like Brithunter I too have been developing up and testing some loads for my . 222 Remington - in my case an Anschutz 1530-34. As I noted in BH\'s thread I am using the ADI powder AR2206H as from the loading handbook it also can be used in the .243Win. All my loading is done with a Super Simplex 5/8" press, RCBS powder thrower and Redding powder scale. I have noticed that the powder sometimes "...

Most of the gear is here, just waiting on case lube and a neck sizing die, and a few less necessary bits.
Ended up with a Redding Model #2 scale, and stupid question #1 is based on it:
Does the position of the pan affect the accuracy in any way? Say if you take it off, must it be put back in the exact same spot? I ask this, because I was getting variances in a 140gn projectile. I ...

Me being as tight as a trainee nurses bandage, was wondering what you folk thought of this scales kit (if you had any experience with 'em). I have a sneaking suspicion it would be through the same folk that import Hornady product, so know where to get them cheaper. But yeah, any thoughts???

Testing performed in Sweden. All swedish models "pass". All American models "fail". That\'s not a "nationalistic" observation, it\'s an objective one. Consider this: Everyone, especially the Europeans, like to mean-mouth the "litigous" nature of the US firearms industry, and point to how the "lawyers" cause all sorts of problems with ammo strength (8mm etc), safeties and every other element ...
