Yes they do need someone to let them out, shut them in at night & clean water & do the feeder, & clean out depending how long you are away. You can keep just one pig, but as you say, they are very social animals and it would be happier with a companion. If you pick up a copy of Country Smallholding magazine there are lots of people who run short 1 day/weekend courses in pig-keeping and pig processing. It might be a good idea to try one of these before you take the plunge, especially if you have not been around pigs very much...

I have a dog -I do love him and he brings us a lot of pleasure he is fed mainly on leftovers, and replaces any form of electronic security device.(as our nightime police cover is now located 36 miles away this is valuable...

Alternatively stuff the chickens inside the pumpkin and bake whole. All the meat juices soak into the pumpkin and the chicken stays lovely and moist. Yum. A modern variant on blackbirds baked in a pie. _________________ Some dude in a torn up suit with beaded dreadlocks and lensless glasses just walked in and said very loudly "FINALLY, someone who understands that Italian Neo-realism could...

We have our dogs spayed and with a willfull roaming randy dog in the village I think we made the right decision. Although he has "fathered" 2 litters of puppies the owners still dont keep him secure.....so just for this precation we say yes. _________________ http://mrsnesbittsspace.blogspot.com/ http://denisebydesigns.net
