A honeysuckle would look good. Just make sure not to plant the Japanese variety, even though the fragrance is hard to resist. Brad AKA Moonwolf

Hyacinth Bean Vine Beans
Published (2009-12-03 10:02:00)
Thanks Arum. I have really enjoyed my vine this year. In the past I have purchased seeds in packets, with not one bloom; but last year one of the vines bloomed and I was able to get seeds. All the vines bloomed this year. I too really love this vine. Thanks again.

Karen these beans stay good for YEARS. I can't imagine EVER planting them and them not coing up. Aside from MG"s this is my favorite vine. Yes, just cut of branchs of beans, and hange them inside. Make sure the beans are wel formed inside. Also, do yu have the white. It is fragrant, but not quite as showy as the purple. I ahve one tht has pods that are white, with a purple line. Love the Hyacinth Bean Vine! :) Arum

Sea Onion: Bowiea volubilis
Published (2009-12-02 22:09:00)
Just wanted to share the news that my onion just pulled out of dormancy (first week of November a "sprout" emerged from the top of the bulb--it was sleeping since April, 7 months!). My bulb was a withering puny thing during dormancy, and I had started to give up all hope for it (I barely ever watered it, maybe once very lightly every two weeks, perhaps it was underwatered?). I have found that during active growth the bulb handles...

I'd like to grow some vines up my house (with support) but realized that Boston ivy and Virginia creepers cling and leave a mess once taken down... I love their rapid rate, fall colour, etc. So I'm thinking about grapes (messy and attract wildlife) but they will do the trick. Any other ideas? I have not yet had a Clematis montana survive our chilly winters. Is that normal? They would do GREAT as well!! Thanks!!

This is the double blue variety. Seeds are fresh - in fact the ripened pods are still hanging on the vine. Will be harvested as needed. No trade required. Send me an email if interested. - June

Don't plant porcelain berry unless you want the plant to end up showing up all over your property and your neighbors' property. This vine reseeds like no tomorrow once it is established. Used to have two of them and took them out just for that reason. On top of that, if you have issues with japanese beetles in your area, they will be drawn to it like a magnet. Been there done that. Montanas are a vigorous vine but just like any other...

help: bauhinia kockiana not growing
Published (2009-12-09 22:53:00)
I bought a Bauhinia Kockiana last April 2009 from our local garden market. It was from a stem cutting and it is a foot tall. I planted it on the ground wherein it receives sunlight from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. It is properly watered and I live in a tropical country. The problem is, it never grew. It stayed the same in terms of height. The leaves drops and new leaves sprout. It is perfectly healthy but it just did not grow an inch since I...

I just planted Crossvines ("Tangerine Beauty") and they're pretty and quick-growing. I've also grown confederate jasmine, which is nice. Not as showy as the Crossvines, but smells nice in the summer.

The most strongly colored one is 'Serotina', it pretty much blows the others away with its visual impact. 'Graham Thomas' has the advantage of repeat bloom, the late flowering is what caused it to be noticed and propagated.
