"Must i remove the engine mounting bolts, to slide the motor back? Or, is there some other way to get the belts back on? " Hi Rusty. That depends. These will sometimes have a removable guide plate. 2 bolts on each side at the frame "rail". If not, then it is necessary to remove the drive pulley or engine bolts if that doesn't work. I route the lower belt through the frame components and over the engine shaft to the vs...

Thanks, Tomplum: Well, i went down to the garage, said some unkind words to that durned tractor, and in an hour, i had it all back together, and working! Whew, Uuuhuh, and phew! It just seemed to want to be fixed. Now, how can i keep the pulleys from rusting? I have several large pieces of plyscore, that are just waiting for me to set that machine on them, and cover it up until spring. Guess i'll have to go out and buy a nice large green...

Ariens Snow Thrower control layout

After many years of operating cars, truck, and motorcycles that were equipped with manual clutch, I have learned to expect that the clutch is normally engaged, or normally closed. The operator has to depress the clutch pedal to open, or disengage the clutch. But the Ariens snowblower is opposite, for both the drive wheels and also the auger drive. Operating the snowblower feels a bit like being in a foreign country.

My original acetylene tank was purchased in '76 and they swapped it for the new style a few years back for the normal swap out price of gas. Wouldn't refill my old one either.

Some of us can learn from this?. Check you equipment over for loose hardward especially if your running vibrating attachments! the shake shyt loose. Matter of fact it's best to do it ever few months anyway? I would also verify that the drive belt to the hydro is good and working, check the routing of the broken belt that you replaced, and look over for any damage the when the bolt fell out.

Me personally, I don't fill it up but I do run marine (blue) Stabil in all my small engine gasoline. And I mix it about double the recommended amount, 2oz instead of 1oz to 5 gal. I've not had a problem with the condensation issue that I ever noticed by the performance of my small engine. Knock on wood :> ) If there was any it wasnt enough to give me fits with carb sucking up water and not starting.

I have a 18 hp B/S that is not getting any fuel. I have replaced the fuel pump, filter, and the line coming from the dipstick tube. I have also removed the fuel tank and checked the line from the tank to the fuel pump to make sure it was not blocked. If I remove the line going to the fuel filter and turn the motor over very little fuel comes out. Any ideas?

Sounds like your tractor is a candidate for the repair shop! Hard to say what the problem is, from where i sit! You could have internal transmission damage, that can't be seen from just looking at it. Something inside is definitely damaged, since the new belt and bolt didn't help any! Also, is there something jammed in the thrower workings? Something way down in the part you can't see ...

I was told by my Simplicity dealer to use the blue Stabil to better protect against engine damage caused by ethanol. I called Stabil's customer service and was told that there was no advantage to using blue over pink in lawn equipment. He did not say it couldn't be used. Also, although it costs about twice the price, you only use about half as much. Since it seems that it comes out to about the ...

I take it that it gets by with the choke on, no abnormal popping etc. It seems as though you are looking in the right place. If the pump brings the fuel to the carb, there is likely still an obstruction inside or possibly the solenoid on the bottom isn't fully working. Did you replace any parts? Remove the float valve when you cleaned it?

My 17 hp ELS has been hard starting from the the got go. If I let it set over a couple of days I have to prime it with carb cleaner. I think it is a deaign issue and that's the way it is on mine.

I'd go for the new Sears, as you would be getting a brand new machine, not one that somebody else may have messed up! Its not just the slight money difference-why buy somebody else's trouble?

In Buffalo- I'd have it plowed. Yes, it can be done, but you might want to put off that decision until you go through a typical winter. With that being said, you may find your neighbors keep a snowthrower for clean up after the plow guy goes. It really depends on how the plow guy works. I had a plow guy in the midwest for 1 property. He would plow with the truck or tractor if needed, then do the ...

Success of that engine was one of their downfalls. I happened into an independent shop trying to find an oddball sized deck belt. While the staff was out looking for this specific belt, I wondered the showroom looking at the new stuff. The small engines on most all of the products have more vac lines, tubes along with other California air resource mandated ( no pun intended) carburetors.......

We have a 24 inch Ariens snowblower, with one of the last Tecumseh Snow King engines. Maybe it will be a collectors item someday? It has the same control layout that you describe. My last snowblower had rubber augur blades, and was not able to dig out and throw the compressed snow that the city plow leaves at the foot of our driveway. The Ariens, however, has a steel auger, and enough power ...

Without being detailed, it is carb related, with the black smoke. As though it is flooding. Check the float seat and replace, sounds like it could be bad or installed incorrectly if you replaced it. Just my . 2 cents worth......

That looks very similar to a Craftsman riding lawn mower that i owned many years ago. Around the mid-fifties (Yeah, that long ago!). It had a 3 H.P. engine, had the same type of handle-bars, the same covers over the front wheels where you put your feet, same type of wheels, but didn't have the cover over the engine area. I used it for many years, even towed an old Lawn boy on an off-set ...
