a disconnected president

LOL! BTW, I am a believer that private enterprise trumps government in creating jobs and profit. I suspect that Obama believes the same thing: see for example the thrust of stimulus packages and the Great Giveaways to mega-corporations. Growing bigger government and setting up private no-bid contracts to favored corporations seems to have been the modus operendi of the prior administration.

all they want to do is destroy a presidency and attempt to ensure that the sitting president only serves one term? Business as usual. The dems have been doing it for years. They didn't succeed with Bush. Let's see if the repubs have better luck. Methinks they will.

*snicker*. You're funny, Paulines. Too bad you didn't read your own link. From it: "In Muslim countries, a person's clothing may reflect practical, religious, social, cultural, and political considerations. For centuries, Muslims typically wore long, flowing garments. " You notice, having high reading comprehension, that it doesn't say that Muslims are the ONLY people to wear these types of clothes, nor that it is...

And the country gets more liberal
Published (2009-11-08 21:01:00)
You're agreeing to something that I am not saying... in essence, trying to twist my words to suit your purpose. When I say religion, I mean the right wing Fundamental Christian groups that seem to want more religion served up with their government... something I don't want, as an independent voter/citizen. I could care less who gets elected, a Democrat or a Republican... as long as they care about the issues that affect the majority...

Which private companies bypassed the state system and got the vaccine? So you think that federal prisoners, living in the conditions they do, shouldn't be given the vaccine? Why? What would be the possible health risks, hospitalization costs, etc, if, say, 90% of prisoners came down with the flu? Its a shortage. The private, for profit company, with a guaranteed, profitable market, was unable to produce enough.

The deafening silence in response to your question tells me that not too many people know, sure some like it some don't but apparently this is not based on what it means.

Frightening crowd of rogues! This while IASB is trying to tighten regulations for banks outside the US by requiring projected loan losses to be reported earlier. Does anyone know if the US banks will be compelled to follow IASB practices eventually.

Does Hot Topics Need a Moderator?
Published (2009-11-08 00:24:00)
"I take this as a veiled threat where you imply that you plan to be letting GW know about the false claim. How else would they find out about it?" Jerzee, Calling attention to bad behavior is only a threat to people engaging in it. If we already have a moderator, that person knows what's going on without any help from me. The post in question claimed I report people frequently. It wasn't true, but the claim put GW on the...

Republicans have been screaming about socialized medicine ever since Johnson managed to pass Medicare in the post-JFK assassination days. It's beautifully ironic for those few of us who seem to remember our history, to watch them posturing as the 'defenders of your [Medicare] healthcare' on TV. I would hope that would be galling enough to make everyone e-mail their Congressional reps and urge ...

Jason, you are very busy this evening! I read about Sgt Munley yesterday, and was very moved by her courage. And very proud. Which was weird for me, I'm not much of a women's libber, " I am Woman" kind of gal. I think I'm of the age where a lot of the work was already done for me. I say if they are fit for combat, go for it. It's the men being able to handle it that worries me.

Don't you just love the 'spin' they put on these propositions? I voted today and there were a few propositions I hadn't heard about before seeing them on the ballot. You sure couldn't tell from the ballot wording what they were for or what the consequences would be. So Circus - A 'No' vote is basically a vote supporting the equality of gay marriage in Maine?

Racism is defined as: the belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others. Discrimination or prejudice based on race. The sad truth is that racism exists today... and I suspect it will continue to exist as long as there are racist parents to pass the idea to their offspring. When I first heard about the Justice who ...

Swanz, I agree with you. I may not think he was a good President but I always figured since Barney and Miss Beasley liked him a lot.. he had to be okay, just not as Pres, lol. . :) I'll bet he doesn't miss that job, either, lol. Good for you, Georgie... and Mrs. Georgie.

I've been following the story too. When I heard it was a Major I damn near fell off my chair. Wolf Blitzer and General Honore were speechless too. Way too soon to jump to conclusions about motive but his rank is a real shocker.

I'll volunteer. Then again, I might not be a good choice. My tolerance for "offensiveness" is quite a bit higher than most people. People would probably complain that I'm too lax.

"What would be the implications of this decision as regards Arab, African or any other countries where women are routinely abused?" One result, and undoubtedly the one Mr. Obama desires, would be legions of desperate, easily led women in need of social services for themselves and their children. That would translate into a windfall for Democrats and their socialist agenda. When you're trying ...

I was 7 in 1959 but statistics tell me on a percentage basis poverty was greater then. The actual numbers haven't changed much but based on the size of the population the percentage was greater then. Women were not in the work force then to the degree they are today so maybe jobs were easier to find for men. Taxes brackets were higher and credit card interest was still deductible. There was ...
