Help with Exterior Columns
Published (2009-11-09 21:01:00)
I am not sure about the columns but I do agree that the door looks squatty. I think it is a great idea to make the door and window above one piece. Maybe this is not in your budget but what about exchanging the window above the door to a circle transom directly set ontop of the door. I have one on my door.

How can I make my mantel POP?...
Published (2009-11-09 17:00:00)
Catnap, do you know how many hours was spent searching for this quartzite? Many. It may be in the same color range as the other stone, but it's a completely different color which you can't tell from the pictures. I am just shocked that you or anyone would suggest knocking down this mantel! lol Wow. I hope you never show us a brand new room that you're so proud of and everyone tells you to "knock it down." Not sure why...

Favorite designer and why?

I still like Martha Stewart's style of decorating and can't stand her personality. She can drop a newspaper on the floor and make it look creative IMO. I love Sarah Richardson too she can design new rooms to a room full of antique's and she seems to be a sweetheart too. I act like I have met them. (lol) ....Jane

I'm fairly new to the forum, but I'm curious what styles people like. I know some of you love clutter and others can't stand it :) Some seem to appreciate CL deals (I know I love second-hand finds) while others may prefer new furniture or even custom pieces. Just wondered if you have a favorite designer and why their work appeals to you. Mine is Candice Olson (Divine Design) during the early years. I really liked some of the...

let's analyze this room

I have to agree partially with you bellaflora; but for the sake of the analysis, and the learning process, it's to be noted how big and plump the throw cushions are, that's one thing that is often lacking in amateur decors, skinny flat cushions. I love the scale of the big painting, that's the drama of the room I think. This probably is a room that looks better in real life than the way it was photographed; the red spotted sofa...

How about Option C -painting the island? I think it would look terrific in a deep, blue/green color, which would pull together with the living area it opens up to. And you wouldn't have to strip it first -just prime and then paint.

I know that feeling all too well. Nothing worse than lying there fixated on getting to sleep. Have you tried melatonin? Only caveat is be careful mixing supplements, herbs and the like if you are already taking prescription medication for any condition. Years ago I tried one of the newer sleep medications, Sonesta came before the new set of meds. Doc said make sure you are in bed ready to ...

Welcome to my world! The best jeans for teens unfortunately are in some of those "teen" stores. The best jeans that fit your criteria are at Aeropostle, American Eagle, Macy's, and Nordstrom's. Nordstrom's is expensive, but they do have jeans that fit. Stay away from Abercrombie. Old Navy should also have jeans for her. I like Aeropostle the best. They have great sales, so the jeans are ...

In the Pottery Barn Living Rooms book, there is a picture of a leather sofa with a slipcovered seat cushion made of quilted velvet. It's so beautiful that it inspired me to make a quilted velvet slipcover for the cushions of one of my sofas (it was a CL find and while most of the sofa fabric is a nice tan velvet, the seat cushions are a horrible floral - definitely needs a slipcover!). I haven't ...

I used Crossville Tile "Color Blox." Colors are Caboose and Roasted Marshmallow. If you call them, they'll send you free samples of their tiles. Here's a link to the Color Blox series, but on the left side of the page are the many other series they have also. Here is a link that might be useful: Crossville Tile - Color Blox

I'm not familiar w/ any of those colors but this past Spring I painted my downstairs in various shades of tan and off-white and I really love the results! Except for my dark brown LR - I must repaint that. What about a larger wreath. Actually, a few of them that you could change out seasonally. Add some chunky candlesticks and you'd be all done. That beautiful fireplace doesn't need a lot of accessories.

Is one of the suggestions: don't get caught reading the book? That would be a dead give away you're trying not to look old! Or maybe it's don't read the book wearing bifocals? or maybe hang out with really old people? Kidding aside, I'm actually interested. What else can you share with us? I don't wear Mom jeans (yay! for me) and I try to dress "hip", within reason. I think we all know people...

I'm female and 39. I found this place through a link on an MSN group in the late 90's, but I didn't register then. I think my profile says I registered in 2001. I'm mostly a lurker as back when I had time to do things I was too shy to post or didn't have a digital camera to post pics. I go in spurts on visiting due to time. I used to have more time to visit and read and post, but since I had my ...

I don't think there is anything wrong with an outdoor dog at all. I am no dog expert, but some dogs are much happier outside. We have a stray (smaller one at that) that LOVES outside and would not be happy inside. She has roamed our neighborhood for the last couple of years or so. We do keep her in our garage at night. We bought a dog barn dog house she sleeps in. Surprisingly, she has ...

What kind of funeral parlors is your husband hanging out in? I've never been in a red one. Ummm correct me if I'm remembering wrong but didn't your house go out of fashion a few decades ago? Since you're in a time bind and really need more time to figure out exactly what you'd like to do outside, I think I'd recommend a black roof. A black roof will go with any color(s) you decide to use outside so it'll leave you flexibility. You can take more time to figure out exactly what you want to do. You're going to live with whatever you do to the outside for a long time so, don't rush it...
