Sun Gold is the least bland tomato in the known universe. It's the only tomato known to cause a physical dependency for those who abuse them. I use them as a topping on lesser tomatoes like Brandywine and Cherokee Purple. A glass of 100% Sun Gold juice can cause euphoria and mild hallucinations (w/10% vodka and dashes of tobasco and celery salt). Sun dried, halved and used as a pizza topping makes a marvelous dessert pizza with an...

Check out this recent thread on Best Cherry varieties. Since you have room for so few plants why not grow some of the more productive varieties? Consider Rutgers, Arkansas Traveler, NAR, Crnkovic, and many others. Dave Here is a link that might be useful: Best cherry bump

If you can remember some of the varieties that LSL used to offer maybe you can ID some of those varieties as named and pictured at Hazera's site, link below. Whether any are currently sold in grocery stores is going to be the problem as I see it, b'c grocery store tomatoes are not usually IDed by name, except for something like the Desert Sweets from Israel. There are three new F1's. not GMO's that were recently released by...

Florida_country_boy, Your seeds were mailed November 8th. Sorry, I missed typing that in the update for some reason. After today, I will not be checking postings anymore for a week. Hopefully I didn't miss telling anyone else when I mailed your envelope. Rest assured everyone....all of your envelopes were mailed. Thanks...Heather

Hi DLF, I have a few extra SunGold F1 seeds if you want them. I highly recommend you try this cherry. It's far from being bland as somebody else said. Plus, it is mighty pretty when it starts to ripen. I got way over 100 fruit from my SunGold this summer, in only about 6hrs sun and I pruned slightly. 45 fruits from Sweet 100 is kinda low. Did you prune or have this plant in part sun? I grew SS 100's 2 years ago when I just bought...

I don't know of any grape tomatoes that are seedless, unless someone had grown them by spraying them with Blossom Set, which induces what's called parthenocarpy and the fruits are pretty much seedless. But I'm pretty sure the wee tomatoes you referred to are one of the many what's called Currant tomatoes. There are many varieties such as Red and Yellow Currants, Wild Texas, Sara's ...

The discussion a bit further down the page called 2010 list has lots of good suggestions in it. Many other discussions here in the past that a search using 'favorite' will pull up for you if you want to read through them. Otherwise Brandywine, Cherokee Purple, Rutgers, Black Krim, Kentucky Breakfast, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Arkansas Traveler, Opalka, etc. are frequently recommended by ...

Greenhouse, grow lights and any variety developed in Canada? http://gardenguide.montana.edu/mgardener/mgardener index.asp I remember neighbors peas, green beans, all kinds of lettuce, cabbage ... asparagus, rhubarb too. All the "cool season" stuff thrives there.

Check out the pics in this discussion on best tomato sandwiches. They are Cherokee Purples. Brandywine Sudduth also gets mentioned frequently and this sandwich discussion lists several other varieties too. My personal favorite is Arkansas Traveler. Not huge so takes several slices but that makes it even better. ;) Dave

personally, on field tomatoes I simply have manure and composts worked into the beds - whatever you amend your beds with improves the beds exponentially over time... If the plants are having a hard time at some point, I may fertilize once or twice per season with very diluted fish emulsion and maybe toss a little epsom salts at some point. that's it. then again, the soil here is very good, ...

Brandy Boy comes very close to the same great taste of Brandywine and with a little better production. I have grown both for years now. Other hybrids I am fond of but each tastes differently: Big Zac (Huge, pure tomato taste) Momotaro (Sweet n Juicy and a perfect looking dark pink tomato but a little on the small side)

Well, the flowers ARE the tomatoes. It's up to you whether you want to let them become tomatoes, or pinch them off to let the plant use the energy to grow a bit faster. Personal preference, everyone has a different idea of this stuff. What are you growing these in?

So whats the big deal? Average rainfall here in NE Colo is 12 inches. You give them lots of room and keep all weeds out. "Dryland" corn was 40 inch rows and about 18 inches between stalks. About 20 bu per acre on a good year. We now " summer fallow" (which is a big, long story) and grow 50 bu fall wheat.
